Today is Tuesday

Businessmen convene.

By Skyler SaundersPublished 21 days ago • 3 min read

Three businessmen in sharp suits and clean shoes sit inside at a smoking lounge. The three of them are feeling the effects of marijuana cigarettes supplied by Javon the Dealer.

1st Businessman––Yeah, the twins. They caught a bad one. [He squashes the J and puts the smoke in the air.]

3rd Businessman–– Yeah, a bad one. They didn’t deserve that at all.

2nd Businessman–– I heard Five Points caught it, too. Not as bad but still bad, if you know what I mean. Same happened in a field just south of here.

3rd Businessman–– You’ve had too many tokes, sir. A little more. [He points a thumb towards the 1st Businessman.]

1st Businessman–– I have more…?

2nd Businessman–– That’s not what he said. He said you’ve had a little more.

1st Businessman––Okay, well you get through what we just witnessed. Can’t you smell it?

3rd Businessman––Anyway, the exchange was totally one-sided.

2nd Businessman––No response on our part. They just came in and––

1st Businessman––Arabs. [He looks at the Dealer and motions for another joint.]

Javon The Dealer––I’ll let you get another one [he rolls one with expertise and hands it to the 1st Businessman.]

3rd Businessman––I thought your were going to––

Javon the Dealer––Easy, everyone gets some for how much you all pay.

[The 1st Businessman lights one and hands the joint to the 2nd Businessman. Javon the Dealer rolls another one. The 3rd Businessman just shakes his head.]

3rd Businessman––They didn’t deserve that. I’ve had at least one accident and some other incidents in my time.

2nd Businessman––But this is no accident. This was all intentional. We’ll see just who it was. I bet Saudi Arabia had something to do with it. I bet.

1st Businessman––I’d say so. Their track record.

2nd Businessman––Who did the first one?

[1st and 3rd Businessmen shoot a glance at 2nd Businessman.]

1st Businessman––Pakis, a Jordanian.

3rd Businessman––I can’t smell anything but that loud.

1st Businessman––No there’s definitely something in the air. From the debris. I can see it in the air. I smell it, too. It’s like burnt paper or plastic or something.

2nd Businessman––People say the twins were ugly and that we all looked better.

3rd Businessman––What does that matter now? They’re gone. Will they rebuild? Eeh? It’ll take them a hell of a lot longer than us. Red tape.

[1st Soldier drags on the potent marijuana leaf.]

2nd Businessman––They didn’t deserve it. None of it. They said we’re the pretty ones.

3rd Businessman––When that second one came in, that’s when you knew the world had changed. I think you’ve had enough [He reaches for 1st Businessman’s J. 1st Businessman rears up. Javon the Dealer intervenes.]

Javon the Dealer––We’re supposed to be relaxing in this place. That dust will be here soon. It’s covering the entire island. The both of you paid too much for this premium blend. Relax.

3rd Businessman––How many you think caught it, Javon?

Javon the Dealer––We won’t know for weeks. Months. Years.

3rd Businessman––Hey, you got some snow?

[Javon shakes his head.]

1st Businessman––See, look at you…. You’re telling me what not to take and you’re grubbing for the white lady. That’s all you know. Let someone else have some fun. For Chrissake.

3rd Businessman––Haaah…[He swats and raises to his feet and buttons his jacket. He daps Javon the Dealer and goes to the front of the building. The other businessmen follow him and Javon takes off in his motorcycle.]

3nd Businessman––Javon is a moolie.

1st Businessman––Javon’s cool.

3rd Businessman––Let’s hit up a club or something. I feel like a rave. They’ve got X there.

2nd Business––You just want to get high.

3rd Businessman––I do. After a day like today….

1st Businessman––You just want to get high.
