To The Last
The Last Man Takes All
The day comes when the last man faces his last hours. They are lonely, empty, and devoid of life; nothing was spared from mankind's greed.
Every resource was consumed - there was never a thought to enrich the Earth; only to milk it for all it was worth. The dirt, sucked dry of its nutrients, grows nothing in the endless heat. There are no trees to provide food or shade. He hasn't found water in days, and the very last swallow of what he had, he drank yesterday. His last day will be spent suffering; hungry, burning, endlessly thirsty.
But there is nothing he can do to stop his demise or alleviate his suffering.
Suddenly he knows what it was like when other animals existed alongside mankind; left to suffer in the absence of abundant and available resources in the overbearing heat.
The man lies down on the barren dirt, baking in the sun. His throat itches, and every swallow does nothing to ease his thirst.
Even in his final moments, he dies a thief; he takes the very last breaths of oxygenated air ever to exist on Earth.
His final hope - that mankind left something on Earth alive...

Megan Baker (Left Vocal in 2023)
A fun spin on her last name, Baker enjoyed creating "Baker's Dozen" lists for various topics! She also wrote candidly about her mental health & a LOT of fiction. Discontinued writing on Vocal in 2023 as Vocal is a fruitless venture.
