According to the British "Daily Mail" report in April 2012, a British couple hopes to sell the house of the Titanic captain Edward John Smith on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, because they can't bear the torment of the "captain's ghost". In the 10 years of renting out the house, there have been many "hell" paranormal events here. Five years ago, the kitchen of the house was even suddenly flooded, just like when the Titanic sank. The endless strange events have attracted a large number of scientists to investigate this paranormal phenomenon. Can they solve the mystery of the "haunted house"?

The Phantom of the Captain

The captain of the Titanic, Edward John Smith, was born in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. His father was a potter. Born in a two-bedroom, one-bedroom apartment in 1841, Smith did not travel to Liverpool until he was 13 to start his sailing career. Although he has been empty since his parents died, he occasionally returns to live for a few days when he returns from sea.

Smith first apprenticed on the "Senator Weber" owned by the Gibson Company, and later became a Commodore of the White Star Line. Because British high society usually required him to be the captain of the passenger ships they took, Smith was known as "the captain of the millionaire". In the upper class of England, the Countess of Rose and Smith had a close relationship and a good relationship.

On April 15, 1912, Smith sank at the bottom of the North Atlantic with the Titanic under his command. This is a rare catastrophe, resulting in a tragedy of more than 1,500 deaths and disappearances in the history of navigation.

At that time, Captain Smith decisively ordered: "Women and children are given priority to the lifeboats." Therefore, the Countess of Roth, who was accompanying him, was rescued. In order to repay Captain Smith's "life-saving grace", the Countess asked her descendants to hold sacrifices every April 15th at this apartment in Staffordshire, England, where Captain Smith once lived, to pray for those who lost their lives in the shipwreck. Of course, it is also a condolence to Captain Smith.

Time flashed to July 2002, after Captain Smith's ancient house changed hands several times, it was bought by freelance writer Neil and his wife Louis Boehner for 35,000 pounds (about 350,000 yuan). Neil and his wife were looking for a quiet apartment to create, so they were no longer willing to accept the sacrificial activities of the descendants of the Countess of Ross. They believed that this would easily lead to some "unclean" things, so the custom that had lasted for nearly 90 years was forced to suspend. However, strange things began to appear in this ancient house one after another.

One night not long after staying in the old house, Neil was concentrating on writing a script when he suddenly heard a loud noise outside the building, vaguely as if someone was blowing a whistle and someone was shouting "help"! He hurriedly woke his sleeping wife, Louis Boehner rubbed his sleeping eyes and pricked up his ears for a long time. Except for the "ticking" of the clock in the room, there was no other sound. She felt that her husband might be too involved in writing, and persuaded him to rest early, kissed his forehead and continued to sleep.

Neil also suspected that he was writing overnight and had auditory hallucinations, so he continued to write, preparing to go to bed after writing the play. Unexpectedly, when he put down his pen and was about to turn around to wash up, he found an old man in a navy uniform with a gray beard standing at the door with no expression on his face. In horror, Neil was about to ask who he was when the old man suddenly disappeared. Neil was so frightened that he broke out in a cold sweat, and hurriedly shook his wife awake and told her what she had just seen. In an instant, the two almost shouted in unison: "Captain Smith!"

As playwrights, Neil and his wife had a lot of contact with text and pictures related to the Titanic. In addition, Smith had lived here before in this house, so they naturally thought of the captain's ghost. They neither dared to speak out about it, nor dared to continue living. So, Neil and his wife rented another apartment to live in, and sublet the ancient house to conceal the truth.

However, in the 10 years that the house has been rented out, there have been many "hell" paranormal events that have continued to occur here.

The first person to rent the house from Neil was a young man named William, a student at a nearby university. One night, when William got up in the bathroom in the middle of the night, he saw Captain Smith's ghost standing in the doorway of the bedroom. Although the captain was not in uniform, William could still recognize him. William was in shock and immediately turned around to wake his girlfriend, but at this time the captain mysteriously disappeared.

After similar incidents occurred many times, William no longer dared to continue renting the ancient house. He called the landlord Neil in the middle of the night and asked to withdraw the rent the next day, but promised not to tell the story of the "haunted" of the ancient house, so as not to affect the landlord's business. Seeing that the guy was so understanding, Neil Boehner agreed with him to cancel the rent early and undercharged them by a month.

The tragic scene of the sinking ship

The Neal couple tried their best to hide the truth and continued to rent out the ancient house, but the "haunted" phenomenon staged in the ancient house became more and more bizarre.

Soon, three traders who came to Stoke to do fur business rented the captain's old house. They didn't live long, and they also reported to Neil that they had seen some strange things. The businessperson named Thomson said that one day, when the three of them were sitting in the living room eating, they suddenly felt a chill, like suddenly hitting an iceberg...

Soon, another businessperson, Connor, reported that one night, his two companions had returned late, and unfortunately there was a power outage that day. He was lighting candles alone while taking stock of the goods. Suddenly, there was a very slight but extremely harsh sound in the room. The doors and windows were tightly closed, but it seemed as if a breeze was blowing, and the candles on the table swayed until they went out. Connor immediately remembered the strange phenomenon that William had mentioned, and suddenly felt cold hair stand on end, thinking that there was a ghost in this room. From then on, the three of them resolutely moved out.

In the following years, the room has not been rented out due to rumors that the old house is "haunted". Although the Neil Boehner couple suffered losses, they still hired an hourly worker to keep cleaning every day to keep the room from looking dilapidated.

It wasn't until 2007 that Windsor Kate, a divorced woman from an out-of-county, was willing to rent the house, which was well below market value. One day at noon, Kate came home from get off work and was shocked to find that the kitchen was flooded, and the bowls and plates were floating all over the house, just like the restaurant scene when the Titanic sank. She called the landlord, Neil, and asked someone to pump the water out of the kitchen. She repeatedly checked the sewer pipes, but found that all the pipes and taps were safe and could not find the cause of the leak.

Shortly after the leak, one day, Windsor Kate, who was returning from work, was exhausted, so she put a bathtub full of hot water and lay down to take a comfortable hot bath. However, as soon as she closed her eyes, she found herself at the scene of the sinking of the Titanic. There were many corpses floating in the vast sea. Some people who were still struggling in the ice sea shouted "help". She was lying alone in an escape boat, but I don't remember how I escaped. When the other drowning people desperately grabbed her boat and tried to pull her into the icy sea, she suddenly woke up and found that the water in the bathtub had become cold at some point...

In a panic, Windsor Kate quickly moved out of the mansion with her two children, and chattered about her magical encounter in the captain's mansion. As a result, news that Captain Smith's mansion was "haunted" spread like wildfire, and there was a lot of uproar throughout Staffordshire.
