It had been a few weeks since the world had changed, since the dead had risen from their graves and started walking the earth. Nobody knew how it happened or why, but it was clear that the world would never be the same again. The first few days had been chaos, as people ran around trying to figure out what was happening and how to survive.

Emma had been one of those people. She had been at work when it happened, and had watched in horror as one of her colleagues turned into a zombie right in front of her eyes. She had managed to escape, but had been traumatized by the experience. For the first few days, she had stayed holed up in her apartment, afraid to go outside.

But eventually, she had run out of food and water, and knew that she had to leave if she wanted to survive. So she had grabbed a backpack, filled it with supplies, and set out into the streets. It was a terrifying experience, as she walked past buildings that had been burned down or were crawling with zombies. But she was determined to survive.

The first few days on the road were tough. Emma was constantly on the lookout for zombies, and had to be careful not to make too much noise. She soon discovered that the best way to avoid them was to stay away from the cities and stick to the countryside. It was quieter there, and there were fewer zombies.

One night, Emma was camping in a field when she heard a strange noise. It sounded like someone was shuffling through the grass. She froze, her heart pounding in her chest. She knew that it could be a zombie, or it could be a survivor like herself. She grabbed her knife and waited.

After a few minutes, a figure emerged from the darkness. It was a man, and he looked just as terrified as Emma felt. They stared at each other for a moment, neither sure what to do.

"Are you a survivor?" Emma asked, keeping her voice low.

The man nodded. "Yeah. My name is Jack. I've been on the road for a few days now."

Emma relaxed a little. "I'm Emma. Nice to meet you."

They sat by the fire and talked for a while. Jack told her about how he had been in a grocery store when the zombies had attacked. He had managed to grab a few supplies and had been on the road ever since. Emma told him about her experience at work, and how she had been on the road for a few weeks now.

It felt good to talk to someone who understood what she was going through. They decided to travel together for a while, to watch each other's backs.

Over the next few days, Emma and Jack became good friends. They shared their food and water, and took turns keeping watch at night. They even started to joke around, trying to find humor in the terrible situation they were in.

But one night, things took a turn for the worse. They were camped out in a field, just like before, when they heard a group of zombies approaching. Emma and Jack grabbed their weapons and prepared to fight.

The zombies were relentless, and there were more of them than they had ever seen before. Emma and Jack fought as hard as they could, but they were outnumbered. In the end, they were both bitten.

They knew what that meant. They would soon turn into zombies themselves. They looked at each other, tears in their eyes.

"I'm sorry," Jack said.

"It's not your fault," Emma replied.

They hugged each other tightly, knowing that it would be the last time. Then they lay down on the ground, side by side, and waited for the end.

As they lay there, watching the stars above, Emma couldn't help but think about
