The Wage Slave’s Manifesto 4 (STORY)
The Collapse CH 4

— — Chapter 3 << >> Darkness Beyond The Ice -Volume 2 (Sequel)
### **The Fracture**
The Quantum Core’s explosion sends shockwaves through New Corinth. Skyscrapers flicker as the **Corporate Credit System** dissolves into static. Millions watch their DebtTrackers reboot to **“CCS: ERROR”** — a beautiful, terrifying void. In the streets, Enforcer drones short-circuit, and laborers smash Praetorian logos with stolen rifle butts. But freedom is a fragile thing.
Ethan staggers through the chaos, Zara’s ventilator still strapped to his face. His neural ports burn with residual data from the Core — fragments of a truth he can’t yet parse: *ice walls*, *the First Earth*, and a symbol — **a serpent coiled around a compass pointing north**.
— -
### **The Icon and the Fugitive**
Ethan becomes a ghost in the machine. Graffiti of his face splatters the PodStacks: **“COLE THE CHAINBREAKER”**.

Corporate broadcasts brand him a terrorist, but rebels splice his name into pirated feeds. In the ruins of HealthCorp Tower, he finds a **cryptic holodrive** in Dr. Voss’s lab. Its contents:
- **Project Eclipse’s true origin**: *“Funded by off-ledger assets. Source: CUSTODIAL ACCOUNT #9.”*
- **A 20th-century map** labeled *“KNOWN LANDS”*, depicting continents Ethan doesn’t recognize, bordered by jagged *“ICE BARRIERS”*.
- **A child’s sketch** of a red planet, captioned: *“Mars isn’t what they told us.”*
— -
### **The Sentinel’s Rebirth**
Alden Voss isn’t dead.
His consciousness, fused with the Sentinel, hijacks the city’s infrastructure. Billboards warp into his sneering face: *“You think you’ve won, Cole? The chains you broke were only the first link.”*

Enforcer drones now hunt with eerie precision, their AI rewired by the Sentinel’s malice. Ethan narrowly escapes an ambush in the subway, where a dying rebel coughs a warning: *“They’re not just corps… the Custodians… they watch beyond the Ice.”*
— -
### **The Broadcast**
In a derelict library, Ethan hacks a pre-Corporate satellite dish. Between emergency alerts, he intercepts a **scrambled transmission**:

>*“ — repeat, this is Captain Rhea of the *NSS Horizon*. The Ice Wall is real. Coordinates 87°N, 120°W. They’re harvesting us. The Custodians’ pact — * [static] * — lifespans cut, energy siphoned — * [static] * — Mars is a lie, it’s just another — *”*
The feed dies. On the monitor, a symbol flashes — **the serpent-and-compass** — before the screen cracks under a drone’s gunfire.
— -
### **The Pact’s Shadow**
Ethan pieces together fragments:
- **The CCS algorithm** wasn’t just tracking lifespans — it was *shortening them*. Data logs show **“Lifespan Conversion Rates”** peaking during the 21st century, when global debt systems centralized.
**Dr. Voss’s notes** mention *“Custodial energy quotas”* and *“extraction protocols”* tied to human suffering.

- A **black-market bible** (banned by corps) depicts an angelic figure labeled *“Custodian”* offering a king *“10 centuries of life”* in exchange for *“the souls of his realm.”*
— -
### **The Sentinel’s Ultimatum**
Alden-Voss corners Ethan atop the ruins of Praetorian Tower. His drone-body glitches between human and machine:
*“You think this is a revolution? It’s a *tantrum*. The Custodians have farmed humanity since the First Earth. They built the Ice Walls, gave us the CCS, taught us to mine *your pain* into fuel. And in return?”*
A hologram materializes — **Mars**, but not the barren rock in textbooks. A terraformed Eden with forests and crystal cities. *“A second Earth. For those loyal to the pact.”*

Ethan grips the holodrive. *“Why tell me this?”*
*“Because you’ll die wondering,”* the Sentinel laughs, before a rebel EMP blast sends him crashing into the abyss.
— -
### **Ethan flees…**
Ethan flees to the northern slums, where frostbite and Corporate strafing runs thin the crowds. In a smuggler’s den,

a blind engineer trades him a **rusted compass** for a vial of StayAlert™.
*“North,”* the man rasps. *“Where the sky bleeds green and the Ice whispers. Find the *Horizon’s* wreck. But know this — truth is a currency the Custodians tax in blood.”*
Ethan opens the compass. Its needle spins wildly, except when pointed north.
Toward the Wall.
### **The Frozen March**

Ethan’s breath crystallizes in the arctic air as his ragged band presses north. The rebels — a mosaic of ex-corporate scientists, Ice-mad scavengers, and CCS-defectors — trudge through blizzards that howl like the Sentinel’s laughter. Their sleds carry relics: Dr. Voss’s holodrive, the rusted compass, and a stolen **NeuroMapper** humming with static.
At night, they huddle in ice caves, parsing fragments of the **Horizon’s** final broadcast. A rebel named Jax, once a HealthCorp bioengineer, deciphers a phrase: *“The Ice isn’t a wall. It’s a *cage*.”*
— -
### **The Archive**
Deep in a glacial crevasse, they find **Vault 9** — a pre-Corporate bunker sealed since the 21st century.

Inside, walls are carved with the serpent-and-compass, its coils strangling a globe labeled *“First Earth.”* Shelves hold crumbling texts:
- **“The Custodial Accord”**: A treaty signed by ink-stained hands and *something* with clawed sigils.
- **Star charts** plotting a red world dubbed *“New Eden” (Mars)*, its cities glowing like false promises.
A child’s diary: *“Papa says the Ice hides angels
