Light shone through the window as if it was directed specifically to this one room, something was off about this light though, it wasn't bright, it had a dullness to it that seemed as though the life was being sucked from it as it entered. His dull and lifeless eyes scanned the room in search of one spec of hope that his life hadn't crumbled to nothing. But all he saw was an empty room with one rocky chair placed in front of the window, which faced out onto to the courtyard from the second-story of his once life enriched home. He didn't think that it was the roses or the sun his wife found so fascinating about this window, he didn't believe she was really looking at anything as she moved back and forth in the wooden chair. Lifting the glass filled with an amber liquid, he could only a assume was some type of liquor, to her lips.

One look at the scene in front of him made him want to crumple to the floor and cry like a child, 'child' the word he wished he could use in happiness and love but now all that word held was grief and sadness. As he stared without focus at this black-hole once called a nursery, he couldn't help but see a memory pass through his mind.

'It was a warm summer's day, a young couple had laid themselves out on beach chairs, just embracing the day. It had been a year since they got married and life was grand, for a reason unbeknownst to him the young man turned to his beautiful bride who for some reason was radiant but seemingly nervous, she was biting her lip and every once and awhile would take a quick glance to her right to gaze at her husband. At first he let it go and allowed her act a little strange thinking the sun had gotten to her a little, but the second time around he just chuckled.

"Babe! What's wrong?" he asked with a smirk lacing his lips.

She turned to him full front but said nothing even sitting up, so he knew she wanted to say something. A few minutes went by and she had yet to say a thing, his smirk falling into a worried frown he sat straight up, moved over till he was kneeling in front of her, his hands taking hold of hers encouraging her to tell him what was wrong.

"Honey you know you can tell me anything right, I love you everything will be alright if we handle it together. " saying this he stood up never letting go of her hands, placing himself beside her and releasing her hands only to pull her into a sideways hug, laying his head upon hers, her face resting against his worried heart. He heard a slight whisper he couldn't make it out so he pulled away slightly to get a look at her face, brushed away the wisps of hair that were hiding the beautiful eyes he had been mesmerized by for three amazing years and asked

"What was that sweetie I didn't hear you? "

"I said... Oh god! I'm pregnant!!" she stated looking down as if scared to see the expression to fall upon his face from hearing this news. But what she did not know was that even though on the outside he was as solid as a rock and as blank faced as a white canvas, on the inside fireworks were exploding, a choir was singing hallelujah, he was doing a happy dance of epic proportions. He was going to be a father! He was going to be a dad! He couldn't believe it. This was amazing.

"Please say something! " he hadn't realised how long he sat frozen until she said those three words, but even as he realised this he still couldn't get his mouth to speak so he did the next best thing, he gathered her in his arms, stood up of the beach chair and swung her around with a big goofy grin stretching across his face.

His brain finally allowed him to speak and he replied

"Are you serious I'm going to be a daddy? I'm going to have a child? I can't believe this, this is amazing. " it was only then as he placed her back on the ground and be saw the shocked look that was now showing on her face. Did he remember how nervous she was.

"Wait! Your excited?" she asked looking shocked to the core.

"Of course I am. Aren't you? " he asked nervous for the answer.

"Well of course I am I was just worried that you wouldn't be I mean we have only been married for a year, I wasn't sure if you felt we were ready. But are you really excited about this? " she asked daring to let a small smile grace her full, pink lips.

"Yes oh god yes I'm so happy! Thank you so much, I love you so much. My darling you have no idea." he stated for the world but more importantly his wife and new child that even though he had not met yet he loved with all his heart.

The smiles on their faces as they embraced each other. The world falling away as they have created a new one to be engulfed by. Even though this memory was one of happiness it also brought sadness as the man continued to look at his wife. He did not know that he was crying till he tasted the salty texture of his tears  as they wet his lips.

As he took one last look at the dull and lifeless room he had one thought and one thought only.

'Why did we have to lose her!!! ' as that one lonely thought lingered for longer than he was willing to let it, he shook his head slowly as if forcing this dark and saddening thought from his mind he turned and walked away but he could feel apart of him leave himself and return to the room the same feeling he has everytime he walks away from the void he once called a nursery!
