The Village That Disappears Every Full Moon
Every full moon, an entire village vanishes without a trace and nobody knows where it goes.

A Story Nobody Believed
I first heard about Hollow Creek from an elderly shopkeeper in a remote mountain town. I had stopped there while researching local legends for a travel blog that occasionally covered strange and unexplained places. When I asked if there were any interesting locations nearby, the old man hesitated before mentioning a village hidden deep within the forest. According to him, the village had existed for over two hundred years, yet very few outsiders had ever visited it. The reason, he explained, was simple and unbelievable: every time a full moon appeared in the sky, the entire village disappeared.
The Search for Hollow Creek
Naturally, I assumed it was just another rural myth. However, the story became more intriguing when I discovered that Hollow Creek did appear in several old records. Historical maps showed a small settlement in the area, and census documents from decades earlier listed dozens of residents. Yet modern maps showed nothing. No roads, no buildings, and no mention of a village. The mystery was too interesting to ignore. Determined to uncover the truth, I followed a series of directions provided by local residents and headed into the forest.
A Village Frozen in Time
After several hours of hiking through dense woodland, I finally found it. Hollow Creek appeared almost exactly as described. Small wooden houses lined a narrow dirt road. Smoke drifted from chimneys, and gardens filled with vegetables surrounded many of the homes. The entire place felt strangely old-fashioned. There were no power lines, no modern vehicles, and no signs of recent technology. It looked less like a modern village and more like a community preserved from another century. Despite its isolation, the residents welcomed me politely and seemed unsurprised by my arrival.
The Unusual Warning
I spent the afternoon speaking with villagers and learning about their way of life. Everyone appeared friendly, but whenever I asked about the legend, their expressions changed. Most avoided the topic entirely. Eventually, an elderly woman agreed to speak openly. She explained that the full moon would rise the following evening. Then she gave me a warning. If I intended to stay, I must remain indoors after sunset and never look toward the village square once the moon reached its highest point. When I asked why, she simply replied that some traditions existed for a reason.
The Full Moon Arrives
The next day passed quietly. Villagers went about their routines, but an atmosphere of tension hung over the community. Doors were repaired, windows were secured, and families gathered supplies as though preparing for a storm. As evening approached, the sky remained perfectly clear. A bright full moon slowly rose above the surrounding forest. The villagers retreated into their homes one by one until the streets became completely empty. Remembering the warning, I returned to the guest room where I was staying and waited.
The Sound Outside
For nearly an hour, nothing happened. Then I heard a low humming sound coming from outside. At first, it resembled distant machinery. Gradually, it grew louder. The walls seemed to vibrate gently, and the air inside the room felt strangely heavy. Curiosity began to overpower caution. Despite the warning, I approached the window and carefully looked outside.
The Impossible Sight
What I saw defied explanation. A pale silver mist had appeared throughout the village square. The fog seemed to glow beneath the moonlight, spreading between buildings like flowing water. As I watched, the houses nearest the square began fading. They didn't collapse or disappear suddenly. Instead, they became transparent, as though they were slowly being erased from reality. Trees vanished next. Then fences. Then entire sections of road. Within minutes, large portions of the village no longer existed.
A World Beyond the Mist
Unable to resist, I stepped outside. The village around me continued dissolving into the silver haze. Beyond the mist, I could see something even stranger. The landscape was changing. Forests appeared where roads should have been. Mountains stood where open fields had existed earlier. It felt as though two different worlds were overlapping. The further I looked into the glowing fog, the less familiar reality became. Shapes moved within the mist, but they were too distant to identify clearly.
The Guardian's Explanation
As I stood frozen in shock, a voice spoke behind me. It belonged to the elderly woman who had warned me earlier. She seemed neither frightened nor surprised. According to her, Hollow Creek existed between two worlds. Centuries ago, something had happened in the valley, creating a place where reality became unstable. Since then, every full moon caused the village to shift temporarily into another dimension. The residents had learned to live with the phenomenon, accepting it as part of their lives.
The Reason Nobody Leaves
I asked why the villagers remained in such a dangerous place. The old woman smiled sadly and explained that leaving wasn't as simple as it seemed. Anyone born in Hollow Creek became connected to the village. Most who tried to leave eventually found themselves returning. Others vanished entirely. Over generations, the residents accepted their unusual existence. The village protected them in many ways, but it also demanded loyalty. That was the price of living between worlds.
The Return of Dawn
The silver mist remained until sunrise. As the first rays of morning sunlight touched the valley, the strange transformation reversed itself. Roads reappeared. Houses regained their solid forms. The familiar landscape returned as though nothing had happened. By noon, Hollow Creek looked exactly as it had the day before. Yet I knew what I had witnessed was real. No dream could have felt so vivid or so terrifying.
A Village Missing From Every Map
When I finally left Hollow Creek, I promised not to reveal its exact location. Years have passed since that visit, yet I still search modern maps occasionally. The village never appears. Satellite images show only forest. Government records remain incomplete. Officially, Hollow Creek does not exist. But every month, when the full moon rises over those mountains, I remember the glowing mist and the disappearing streets. Somewhere beyond the reach of ordinary maps, an entire village vanishes into another world and patiently waits for dawn to bring it home again.
