The Ultimate Mechanism
The clockmaker seeks
An elderly clockmaker ventured into the forest in search of a mechanism more precise than his timekeepers. Upon watching the deer prance, he concluded that they could not compare to the micro-springs he crafted. Next, he watched the many birds fly. They were not as coordinated as cogs.
When his ambition was fading at sunset, the clockmaker stood on a mushroom. Using his magnifying spectacles, he saw how the mycelium spread into the undergrowth, feeding and communicating with those organisms around it. Suddenly, the clockmaker could see the vast mechanism hidden in the soil. He found it!

Fable 7: The Dog and the Dragon
There once was a dog who lived on dusty streets of an island. He was a dull orange in his fur and the local humans once joked that he was ‘toasted’ by the blistering sun. The dog liked the locals. Some would be cruel or distant towards him, but others would offer him scraps. One man, who stayed in some sort of meat-house, used to offer him bones, sinews and slippery fat from his cuttings. The dog loved that man, the gifts he gave the dog were blissfully cold and always accompanied by a heavy pat on the head.

The Golden Valley
The difference between light and dark could be as quick and simple as a flip of a switch, the drawing of a curtain, the opening of one’s eyes. It could be more gradual like the slow adjustment of the diaphragm on a microscope, the turn of a planet on its axis, the growing light as you approach the end of a tunnel. A flicker in the dark, a steady glow in the distance, a flash in the night sky.

Dreams of the Savannah
I am hungry. The dust is familiar, a similar colour to what I've known, but there are none of the scents of the savannah. The grasses would find plenty to feed them here but they would not be given the chance to grow. They would not provide cover in which to hide, to camouflage, to aid the hunt.
