Trevor and the Piano

It was Friday night and Trevor had finished his last shift on his bus. He went into the staff room to put his hi-vi jacket into his locker when his boss, “Jeff” called on him.

“Trevor, I need your help tomorrow. I’m moving a piano and you’re going to help me move it!”. Trevor replied, “A piano? Aren’t they really heavy? I’m definitely not the man for the job!”.

Jeff replied, “Oh yes you are Trevor! I won’t take any excuses plus I’ve got a special trolly just for the job. You can help me use it. Be at my house at 10am sharp and we’ll get it done”.

Trevor was not impressed but thought he better be there as his boss has been very generous to him by not complaining regarding his driving! He said, “No problem boss, I’ll be there!”.

The next day, Trevor turned up on time and rang the doorbell at the entrance to his boss’s driveway. The gate opened, and Trevor drove up to the house and noticed that the doors were open and there was a big van outside that had a ramp going up to it’s rear doors and another ramp covering the stairs to the entrance of his boss’s house.

Trevor walked into the house and quietly called out, “Jeff, I’m here, it’s Trevor!”. He looked up the grand stairway and there was Jeff, saying, “Come up here Trevor, let’s get things moving!!”.

“You didn’t say we had to move the piano from upstairs to outside?!”, said Trevor. “What difference will it make Trevor?”, said Jeff.

“A lot! I can’t lift a piano down the stairs” replied Trevor! When Trevor got up the stairs he saw the piano at the end of the hallway and a trolley next to it.

“Right Trevor, I need you to help me move the piano onto the trolley, then we’ll wheel it towards the stairs.” Said Jeff. The two of them heaved then lifted the piano onto the trolley.

Jeff then said, “Now, I’ll put the sides up to make sure the piano doesn’t fall out and let’s start moving this musical machine to the top of the stairs.”. “When we get there, that handle on your side is called the “Brake”. Keep your hands on it Trevor as you have to use it when we start taking the trolley downstairs.”

Trevor carefully started to move the trolley down the first stair, then the second, and just when both Jeff and Trevor thought everything was going well, they heard a colossal “SNAP”. “That’s not good”, shouted Trevor, “Look out below”, shouted Jeff! Then the trolley hurtled down the stairs gaining huge speed as they turned the corner. Jeff jumped off the trolley leaving Trevor to hang on as it raced through the hallway, out of the front door, down the ramp then up the ramp into the back of the van! The trolley took off and landed with a huge, “CRASH!”. Then there was silence. Jeff ran up the ramp, into the van and saw Trevor still holding onto the trolley!

“Are you ok Trevor?” said Jeff, “I think so”, replied Trevor. Jeff went over to the trolley, undid the sides and to his amazement, the piano was still in one piece. Jeff said, “I’ll just play a little tune to test it”. As the keys started to sound, Trevor said, “That’s one strong-CRASHBANG!! PIANO!”. At that very moment, the piano collapsed into a thousand pieces onto the floor! Trevor and Jeff looked at each other with Trevor knowing Jeff was going to react!

“TREVOR!!!!!”. Jeff took a breath and said, “Well it wasn’t exactly your fault so off you go and I’ll see you on Monday!”. But, the moral of the story is, “If you need to move a piano, make sure you use professionals!”.
