The Trap in the Safe

As the clock struck midnight, she found herself standing before the abandoned house, heart racing with anticipation. "This is it," she whispered to herself, "the moment I've been waiting for." With careful steps, she made her way inside and descended into the basement where the safe awaited her.

As she opened the safe, a sense of relief washed over her. "I did it," she exclaimed, reaching for the treasure chest inside. But her elation was short-lived as she pulled out a note instead of the expected riches. "'Congratulations, you've made it this far. Now it's time to pay the price,'" she read, her voice trembling with fear.

Suddenly, a chilling laugh echoed through the basement as the walls began to close in on her. She realized too late that the safe was rigged and she had fallen into a trap. The last thing she saw before the darkness consumed her was the note's signature: "E.A. Poe."
