The Sword Thief - Part 2
A Retelling of the Legend of King Arthur
Magically disguised as a pageboy, Morgana le Fay stood silently behind a long table of knights, holding a jug of wine. Minstrels played as Arthur and his men ate and drank in celebration. They had been victorious in battle just the day before.
Morgana’s lover Accolon had led a revolt against Arthur’s rule and his persecution of the old religion and ways. Arthur killed Accolon and those who followed him for rebelling. Morgana could hear Merlin’s words echoing in her ear as she waited.
“Poison is the weapon of a coward. That is why this poison will not kill, only cause great slumber.”
He gave her a vial filled with red liquid.
“Disguise yourself as a pageboy. Slip this into the wine and serve it. Once it takes effect, you will have time to steal Excalibur.”
That vial now sat empty in Morgana’s pocket, the men unaware of what they were truly drinking. Arthur stood up from the table, disoriented and drowsy from the poison. He turned to her. “Boy, bring a jug of wine up to my bedchamber.”
Morgana nodded and followed behind Arthur. She smiled, eyes on Excalibur as it swung from Arthur’s hip, glinting in the candlelight.

Your story just gets better and better😻
I took some liberty in my short retelling of the Arthurian Legend in regards to the backstory and motivations of certain characters. Enjoy!
