The spark within
The spark has always been there it just needed fuel
Ava stared out the rain-splattered window of her small downtown café. The neon sign flickered faintly outside, casting a soft glow across the empty tables. It had been a long day, and the weight of her routine life felt heavier than usual. Every morning, she opened the café, served her regulars, and closed shop as dusk fell, always dreaming of something more, something different. Her café, "The Spark," had been her dream once. But over time, it had lost its luster. Somewhere between balancing bills and brewing coffee, Ava had forgotten why she started it in the first place. One evening, just as she was preparing to close, a young woman burst through the door. Soaking wet from the storm, the stranger caught her breath and hurried to the counter."Sorry, are you still open?" the woman asked, her eyes wide with a strange urgency.Ava hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "Yeah, what can I get you?""Just a coffee, black, please."As Ava prepared the coffee, the woman sat by the window, fidgeting with something in her bag. When Ava brought her cup over, the woman smiled gratefully and took a sip."You know," she said, her voice soft but confident, "I used to run a place like this. A bookstore, actually. It was small, cozy, not many customers... but I loved it."Ava tilted her head, intrigued. "What happened?"The woman sighed, glancing out at the rain. "Life happened. I had to move away, and the dream just... faded. But something about this place, your café, it reminds me of the spark I once had." She paused, taking another sip. "You ever feel like that? Like you’ve lost the spark?"Ava blinked, surprised by how much the stranger’s words resonated with her. "Yeah," she admitted quietly, "I do."The woman nodded knowingly. "It's hard when you pour so much of yourself into something, only to feel like it's slipping away. But sometimes, all it takes is a little reminder—something or someone to help you reignite that fire."Ava smiled faintly, the words lingering in her mind. "I guess I've just been waiting for that reminder.""Maybe it's already here," the woman said, her eyes glinting with an unspoken understanding. She reached into her bag and pulled out a small, worn notebook. "This helped me once. Maybe it'll help you too."Ava hesitated but took the notebook. The cover was plain, the pages filled with scribbled notes, ideas, and sketches. As she flipped through it, she felt something stir inside her, a familiar but forgotten feeling."Thank you," Ava whispered, her voice thick with emotion. The woman smiled and stood, pulling her hood over her head. "Keep that spark alive, Ava. Sometimes, all it takes is a little push to remember why we started in the first place."With that, the woman left as suddenly as she had arrived, disappearing into the storm. Ava stood there for a long moment, staring down at the notebook in her hands. The café, once a shadow of her old dream, now felt alive with possibility again. The next day, Ava woke up with a fire in her heart. She arrived at the café early, rearranged the tables, put up a new menu, and added a little shelf near the window for local artists to display their work. It was a small change, but it was hers—something fresh, something alive.Weeks passed, and "The Spark" began to buzz with new life. More customers came in, drawn not just by the coffee but by the energy Ava now carried. Her café became a place of warmth, a gathering spot for people with their own dreams and stories. And every now and then, when she felt that old heaviness creeping back in, Ava would pull out the notebook, flip through its pages, and remember the night the stranger came in from the rain. The spark was always there. It just needed a little fuel.
