I heard it for the third time that day - your name.

I didn't listen. It floated through the air, as if the universe was rehearsing something, from different people at different times. First, the florist mentioned it while arranging a bouquet. Then the barista wrote it on a coffee cup for someone else. Now, a little girl shouted it across the park, laughing, as she chased her dog.

Your name.

So simple. So familiar.

And yet, it made my heart skip a beat.

I hadn't heard it in months.

Not since the day we broke up - not since the day we decided to be two people with so much love and so little time.

---

I remember the way you said my name. Like a soft rhythm you murmured without realizing it. You would say it in the morning when your voice was hoarse and sincere. You would say it when we fought, when every letter was sharp like broken glass. Like a quiet promise, like a whisper, between forgiveness and longing.

The sound of your name in the world today reminded me of all that.

Now, as I sat on a park bench, watching autumn steal the green from the trees, I wondered if you ever thought of me.

---

We met in the most unexpected place - a bookstore aisle.

You held a novel I loved in your hands, flipping through the pages like they were puzzle pieces. I remember smiling at your furrowed brow and asking, “Are you looking for something specific?”

You raised your head, surprised, and then laughed. "I'm trying to decide whether this book will break my heart or make me fall in love with it."

I tilted my head. "Sometimes it's both."

That was our beginning. A sentence about heartbreak. Yet, it led to something beautiful.

---

For six months, we were a story written in seconds.

Sunsets on your terrace. Midnight phone calls that ran until sleep stole our words. Long drives without a destination. Text messages that felt like poetry. Laughter over burnt toast. Fights over the smallest things that matter most. Apologies with a shy smile. Kisses that tasted like coffee and rain.

You knew my worst fears. I knew your quiet dreams.

But somewhere along the way, life grew louder. Work deadlines, family expectations, personal wounds we hadn't healed — they all crept in, slowly breaking our edges.

Until one day, we stood in your kitchen, both tired of pretending.

"We love each other," I said, tears welling up in my voice. "Why isn't that enough?"

You looked down. "Because we're holding on too tightly and breaking apart."

We didn't fight that day. We didn't scream.

We just... let go.

For the first time in our story, silence was louder than love.

---

That was eight months ago.

Since then, life has moved on. At least, that's how it seemed on the outside.

But today, when I heard your name three times, I realized something - I really didn't give up. I had buried you under the hype, under the small distractions and the big denials. But you lived in my silence. You lived in the pauses between my thoughts.

I stood from the bench, not knowing where my heart wanted to go. I wasn't chasing you - not really. But inside I felt something change. An attraction. A whatever.

I walked along the familiar paths near our old hangout, not expecting to find you - I wanted to remember.

---

That's when I saw it.

Our bookstore.

Still wedged between the bakery and the pharmacy. Still smelling like stories and memories.

I walked inside, heart pounding. I didn't know what I was looking for. Closure? Hope?

The aisles were the same. I let my fingers run along the spines of the books we once laughed at. Then, in the corner - our shelf.

The place where we first met.

I smiled, touching its full circle.

Then I heard it.

My name.

Soft, familiar. Unsure.

I turned - there you were.

Standing with a book in your hand. The same book as before. The same confused look on your face.

Except now, your eyes were wide, your breath hitched.

"I..." you started, then smiled nervously. "This is surreal."

I nodded, tears welling up in my eyes. "You always had a good time."

You moved closer. "Do you believe in signs?"

"I don't," I whispered. "Until today."

You looked at the book, then at me. "You once said that stories can break your heart and still be beautiful."

I nodded.

"Maybe we needed a break," you said.

That's when I realized – time didn't destroy us.

It was waiting for us to find the right side again.
