The Rise of the Valley

Dragons were coming

By Josh ReynoldsPublished 4 years ago • 3 min read

There weren't always dragons in the valley. There weren't a lot of things in the valley. But that's were it stopped. Earth hasn't been the same since they started coming. We don't know how or when, but they just started showing up in the sky one day. Big creatures, floating around like they were in the sea, but above us in the air.

We don't know what they want, they haven't made any hostile strikes yes, but we want to be prepared. Want to be able to defend what is ours if the time calls for it.

Sometimes they will stay in one spot for weeks, other times just hours and even mere minutes. No place was safe.

They would be above the meadows of flowers. Above the moss covered bridges. Above the ivy covered towers that were falling down.

None of us tried going near since we haven't seen Earl back at all. He wondered a little to close, and although no one saw anything happen to him, we haven't seen him since that fateful day.

We need something.

Something, but what?

We didn't know what these creatures were. The creatures from the sky.

That's when we started gathering from other communities around us, gathering the thinkers, the ones who could figure out, plan, and execute. The leaders. We needed a plan and we needed it now.

Jessie started us off, from as long as I could remember she's always been the adventurous one. The one to take risks, push the boundaries of what is possible. Although she can be hot-headed at times, people look up to her for how much she's helped our town grow. Not one to go with the status quo.

Everyone was gathered in the great hall, the clamor wouldn't settle down until Jessie started getting everyone's attention.

"Everyone, everyone please, calm down. You all know why we are gathered here. We need to talk about what we are going to do." Jessie said.

Ralph, Jessies right hand man, stood up and addressed everyone. "We need to band together now, more than ever, if we are going to figure these things out with the new threat."

"And who put you in charge?" Someone shouted from the crowd.

"No one, and if you'd like to lead, please, be my guest. But it'll be your responsibility to take charge of what happens." Jessie responded back.

She continued. "Look, these creatures haven't made any attacks on us yet, but we can't let our guard down now. We need to be ready for a fight, we need to be able to protect ourselves."

Another shouted from the crowd. "Yeah, and what are we suppose to do?"

"That's why we are gathered here today, we need to discuss what resources we have, what shelter, who are specialists are." Jessie said.

There was a roar of noise through the crowd, some excitement but mostly panic. People were scared, no one knew what to do and everyone knew that as well. Everyone started getting anxious again.

"Quiet!" Jessie shouted again above the crowd. "Bickering amongst each other isn't going to help anything and we don't have time to waste! Who do we have here today?"

"Well, I'm good at computer engineering." One said as he raised his hand.

Another shouted, "I'm good with robotics!"

Yet another, "I can program computers to completely talk to one another."

"Ok" Jessie said, as she looked out over the crowd. "Let's get to work!"

So that's when it happened in the Valley, Silicon Valley. A.I. dragons were starting to be built, built to be the defenders of the earth.
