The Reality of Power
Why Archē shapes every weapon and tool of war
Zack tilted his head slightly, the deep red‑maroon of his eyes glinting in the golden late‑afternoon light, a look of quiet logic mixed with gentle exasperation settling over his pale, moon‑like features. He could see the fire in Kraii’s eyes, the unyielding determination that drove him to push past every limit, but he also saw the flaw in that resolve, the part of the picture his friend was choosing to leave out.
“Umm… you do realize that most weapons are powered by Archē? Like the Archē gun?”
His voice remained calm and steady, no trace of anger or ridicule, just the firm tone of someone who spoke from years of experience and observation. He shifted his grip on the hilt of his sword, adjusting it so the heavy blade rested more comfortably against his broad shoulder, the dark, matte steel seeming to drink in the fading sunlight rather than reflect it. It was a weapon that looked simple at first glance, but anyone who knew anything about craftsmanship could see it was far more than just metal and leather.
“Think about it properly,” he continued, his tone measured and thoughtful, as if walking Kraii through a lesson rather than arguing with him. “Even this blade, I hold, its edge stays sharp enough to cut through reinforced armor without dulling, its structure remains rigid enough to withstand blows that would shatter ordinary steel, and it can deliver force far beyond what its weight alone could generate. All of that comes from the way it is forged to resonate with Archē. The energy flows through its molecules, strengthening them, aligning them, making them more than they would ever be on their own. Strip away that connection, and what do you have? Just a heavy lump of iron. It would bend, chip, or snap the moment it clashed with a weapon built to use that power. It would be useless in any real fight.”
He paused for a moment, letting the weight of that truth hang in the still, warm air of the training ground, before broadening his point further. “And the Archē gun? That is the most obvious example of all. It does not rely on gunpowder, springs, or mechanical force the way old weapons did. Instead, it draws upon the Archē energy that fills the air, the ground, and all living things, condensing it, compressing it into a focused beam or projectile, and releasing it with enough force to shatter barriers, pierce the thickest armor, and strike down targets from hundreds of paces away. If you remove the Archē, it becomes nothing more than a hollow tube of metal, empty and lifeless. It cannot fire, it cannot defend, it cannot do anything. It is not just warriors who use this energy, but it is woven into nearly every tool, every defense, every machine, and weapon we have built to survive in this world.”
Zack took one slow, careful step forward, making sure not to crowd Kraii or interrupt the space he needed to feel grounded. His powerful frame moved with a quiet, controlled grace, every muscle shifting smoothly beneath his own dark training tunic. “I understand why you want to do this. I truly do. You believe that relying on Archē makes you weak, that it hides flaws in your body and your skill, and that if you build your strength from the ground up without it, you will be unbreakable. That is a noble goal, and I respect it more than I can say. But you are missing the larger truth: you cannot fight a world that runs on Archē while pretending it does not exist.”
He gestured gently toward the training field, then out toward the distant horizon where the city and the mountains lay beyond. “One day, sooner or later, you will face an enemy who does not hold back. They will use Archē to make their body faster, stronger, and more durable. They will wield weapons infused with their power, and they will strike with force that no amount of ordinary training can match. If you refuse to understand how that energy works, how it flows, how it can be redirected or resisted, then even the greatest skill you have built will only let you stand for a little while longer. You will be like a swordsman who trains only with a wooden stick, and then goes into battle against men carrying steel. You can be the best stick‑fighter in the world, but you will still lose.”
His red‑maroon eyes held nothing but honest concern as he finished, his voice softening just a little. “Strength without Archē is admirable, but it is incomplete. It is like learning to walk only on flat ground, and then trying to climb a mountain. You can have strong legs and great balance, but if you do not understand the terrain, if you do not know how to use what is around you, you will still stumble and fall. The world we live in runs on this energy, Kraii. You can choose not to use it, but you cannot choose to ignore it and expect to survive.”
