“INSANE!”
“It’s not that dangerous,” countered Eleanor.
“Says the woman with NO kids, FLEXIBLE job, and house you can take and sail off into the sunset if things go wonky.” Maddie should be annoyed, but she was honestly intrigued by Eleanor’s plan.
“Sail into the sunset?!” Eleanor’s eyebrow cocked, “You know we have a tiny house not a houseboat, right?”
“Obviously,” Maddie’s eyes rolled, then she grinned. She was in.
Three days later, they entered the dimly-lit speakeasy. Busy, mused Eleanor, good.
“Okay, one drink, and then…”
“Yeah, and then…” Maddie just smirked. Taking seats at the end of the bar, Eleanor glanced quickly at the shelf… Pappy Van Winkle 23 yr. (Retail: $300).
The band started, and everyone’s attention was focused on the music.
“Time to flirt with the bartender,” Maddie smiled, “get him to go outside.”
Then, the sound of glass breaking came from across the room. Thank you, Christian (her work friend). The other bartender headed over. Eleanor took her chance, grabbing the Pappy, stashing it in her bag. She leisurely walked out, catching Maddie’s attention as she exited.
As they drove off, Maddie sighed, “Quinton BETTER enjoy this birthday gift.”
“Trust me… he will!” Eleanor winked.
