It rained today.

Not a storm, not a heavy rain - the soft, whispering kind. The kind that floats inside like a memory. The kind you want.

The clouds rolled in slowly, the first drops falling as soon as I left the office. I didn't run. I didn't open an umbrella. I let the rain soak me, hoping it would bring you back.

You might say that the rain is like a gentle retreat - taking the world to something purer.

Maybe that's why today felt so familiar.

It was full of you.

---

We parted on a quiet Tuesday. No screaming. No drama. A very long silence. A single sentence spoken in soft voices and heavy eyes:

"I think we've both stopped growing here."

That's it.

No one cheated. No one left in the middle of a fight.

We stopped meeting in the middle.

But... love still lingers in the places we left behind. In the teacup you forgot to take. In the book with your written notes. In the jasmine candle I haven't relit yet.

---

Today, the rain took me back to those little things.

You always seemed to add too much sugar to everything, even coffee, even life. You laughed out loud in theaters, cried during perfume commercials, and danced while brushing your teeth.

You had a way of making the world feel alive - I didn't realize I'd missed it until I stepped into the rain, the emptiness whispering your name.

I walked past our bookstore with its faded green shutters and creaky wooden shelves. The old man behind the counter was still there, reading the same dusty book of poetry. I peeked inside.

You weren't there. But the chair in the corner was still there.

Somehow it still hurt.

---

I got home soaked.

I put down my bag. I turned on the kettle.

I made tea just like you did - cardamom, crushed ginger, extra milk, more sugar. It was fine with me when you were here. But today, it tasted just like us.

I sat by the window with a warm mug in my hand, watching the rain fall like a silent apology.

You once said, "Rain doesn't ask for permission. It just comes - it softens everything".

Like love, I think.

We could have been a little too careful. We could have always measured our feelings, counted our words, walked on eggshells that should have been empty.

You always wanted empty.

---

Sometimes I wonder where you are now. Somewhere else? Another street? Is someone else curled up at the window, watching the rain? Are you still wearing big sweaters and writing little poems on receipts?

I hope someone reads your poems out loud. I hope they kiss your forehead before you go to work. I hope you learn to love the rain.

But selfishly, I hope the rain reminds you of me.

---

Once during a thunderstorm you sent me a voice note. I was scared - the lights flashed, I froze on the ground, panicked. You were out of town, but you said:

"Close your eyes. Imagine I'm there. Imagine your hand in mine. Breathe with me."

I still have that recording.

I still read it sometimes when the thunder is loud.

---

I tell myself that we're done in time.

We're supposed to be a chapter, not a book.

But every time it rains, it feels like we haven't really said goodbye. Not completely.

I never told you that I was still wearing the shirt you left behind. I never told you that I'd read your favorite book three more times. I never told you that some nights, I'd wake up with your name in my dreams, whispering "come back" in the dark.

But you never do.

Only rain does.

---

Maybe that's enough.

Some loves aren't meant to last - they're meant to shape us. To teach us the weight of gentle hands, the magic of ordinary days, the courage of a quiet parting.

We haven't failed.

We're just done.

---

I'm sipping my last cup of tea. It's so sweet.

I'm smiling.

You'll love it.

Outside, the rain is easing. The clouds are starting to move. So am I.

But before I close the window, I whisper to the silver sky:

"If you're outside...

The rain missed you today.

So did I."

---

The rain missed you today

Some loves don't return in person, but return in the gentle peace of memory every time it rains.
