The Possibility of Time Travel
Time Travel: A Black Hole Solution 2. The Gravity of Time: How Relativity Could Enable Time Travel 3. A Trip to the Future: How Black Holes Could Slow Time

Time travel is a popular concept in science fiction, but is still not possible with current technology. However, there are theories which suggest that it could be achieved by travelling at high speeds. This is based on Einstein's Theory of Special Relativity, which has been tested and found to be promising. According to the theory, the faster an object moves, the slower time will pass for it. The fastest speeds achieved so far are seen with neutrinos, which can travel close to the speed of light.
The Speed of Light
Scientists have measured the effect of gravity on time passing using two clocks placed at different heights. Proton speeds equate to 11 months for us, giving rise to the possibility of time travel using gravity. To travel to the far future, a place with extremely strong gravity is needed.
Using Gravity to Time Travel
Gravity is like a black hole, a point in space where gravity is so strong that even light cannot escape. Time moves slower the closer you get, but traveling through one is very dangerous as there's no coming back. Fun fact: GPS systems have to account for time dilation effects due to the speed of satellites and the gravity they experience on Earth.
Slowing Down the Body's Processes
Scientists are attempting to find ways to time travel to the future by slowing down the body's own processes. This form of time travel would involve remaining stationary for a long period of time. Some animals, such as bears and squirrels, have the ability to slow down their metabolism during hibernation in order to survive. Researchers are looking into the possibility of humans being able to do the same thing. In 2005, scientists were able to slow down the metabolism of mice by exposing them to a small amount of gas, but this technique was not as successful with larger animals.
Wormholes as Shortcuts
The idea of time travel is a unique one, involving the potential use of wormholes. Wormholes can be thought of as two balls on a trampoline, where the trampoline curves and allows them to touch. Stars and other star systems also have this effect, where they curve the space around them. Wormholes could theoretically be used to travel long distances or to different times. However, scientists like Stephen Hawking believe they are too small to use. Additionally, it is thought that even if a wormhole could be used, it would rapidly collapse upon itself due to the extra mass of a person entering it. Finally, the fifth solution for time travel is unknown.
Rotating Cylinder of Light
Ron Malik, an American physicist, proposed a theory of time travel that uses light as its resource. He believes that if something was dropped inside a rotating cylinder of light, it would be able to move in both space and time. Malik is attempting to fund an experiment involving neutrons and spinning lasers to test his theory. However, other scientists argue that it is impossible and raises questions of safety due to the Paradox of Time Travel.
The Paradox of Time Travel
Time travel has long been a concept of intrigue for many, and a new study from the University of Queensland suggests that the Paradox of time travel may not be a real issue. The grandfather paradox is used to illustrate the idea that if one were to go back in time and prevent their own grandfather from having offspring, that they would not exist in the present. Scientists have since concluded that this would not be the case, and that the timeline would still exist regardless of changes made. Time travel can be achieved through various means such as through the use of gravitational forces, the GPS system, and slowing down the body's metabolic processes. Scientists are trying to find ways to slow down the body's processes to help with medical emergencies, and animals such as bears and squirrels have been observed to do this through hibernation. Ron Malik has proposed the use of a rotating cylinder of light to travel through time which has yet to be tested due to lack of resources. Overall, time travel is a concept that is still being explored and researched, and its possibilities are still unknown.
