Dorothy's World

By Janisha PricePublished 4 years ago • 3 min read

There was a family that moved into a new home and the little girl of the family name was Dorothy. She was so excited to explore the new house! She went in every room in amazement. When she got to the basement she had never had a basement in a home before, and she saw that there was so many different antiques that the previous home owners had left behind. Dorothy found a machine. She had never seen a machine like this before. It was very intriguing to her and she wanted to figure out how it worked and what the machine was used for. When she turned it on, it needed a password. She put in random words she thought it could be but then the machine displayed the words “reset your password”. She looked at the password hint and it said “In this home”. Then she gave up and went upstairs with her family to unpack.

The whole family was excited to put away their belongings and to settle into their new home. She asked her dad to assemble her new bed so that she can put her new unicorn bed clothes on. Dorothy loved unicorns. Her dad helped her assemble and make her bed. Dorothy was so happy. As she got tucked in and said her prayers, she snuggled in her new bed with her stuffed butterfly that gave her comfort at night. She laid there with a big smile on her face. Then she remembered the machine. Her mind wondered what could be in this home that would be the password?

The next day she woke up ready to go to her new school. When she got to school, all of the kids were really nice to her. A few of the kids asked her “Are you the new kid on the block? She said, “yes” with a smile on her face. Then suddenly things changed. Some of the kids told her that her house was a magic house. She thought that they were just joking or trying to scare her and so she ignored it. When she got home her parents asked her how her day was and she let them know she had a great day. As she sat on the couch to watch television, she realized there was an odd pattern on the wall in one area of the wall behind the television. She walked towards the wall and felt the pattern and as she touched it, it almost felt as though it moved with her hand. She swiped her hand across the wall and the wall pattern changed into a word. The word was PEREGRINATE. She looked around to see if her family saw what she had discovered. All of them were off doing their own thing.

She ran down to the basement and grabbed the machine. She typed in PEREGRINATE as a password to get in. Suddenly bright lights beamed from the machine and it felt like an earthquake. She fell and hit her head, knocking her unconscious. Once she regained her consciousness, she realized she was no longer in her home. She was in a different majestical world in which everything was so colorful. Dorothy saw huge butterflies, rainbows in the sky, the grass felt like clouds, the flowers were lollipops and there was a steaming River of hot cocoa. It felt like a paradise. She heard an unfamiliar sound. As she turned around she saw a flying unicorn. It landed right next to her. She was frightened at first but it appeared to be nice and nudging her to get on its back. Dorothy straddled the unicorn and it took off into the sky. This was the highest she had ever been in the air. Suddenly the winds got really bad. It was so bad that she fell off the unicorn. As she was falling she was screaming. The moment she hit the surface, although the grass felt like clouds, she fainted.

When Dorothy awoke her mom asked her why was she screaming? Dorothy told her mom she must’ve fell asleep and had a bad dream. Her mom looked at the machine and attempted to turn it wondering what it was. Dorothy did not want anything to happen to her mom, so she didn’t tell her she knew the password. Her mom told her to go upstairs because it was too dusty in the basement. Dorothy did what her mom told her but she waited until her mom was sleep to go back down to the basement to hide the machine. She buried the machine under a plank in the floor. She wanted to make sure no one ever travels to that majestical world again. Dorothy felt that everyone should embrace their own world and she vowed to live the rest of her life treating it as if her own reality is paradise.
