The Pain Of Dieting
Fiction Shorts word of the day: Extent
“Michael, what are you doing?”
“Oh hi Mum, I’m not doing much. Just thought I’d cook up a batch of your favourite cupcakes. It is Mother’s Day tomorrow after all,” Michael responded with the sweetest of smiles.
Mum heaved a huge sigh of frustration. “I distinctly remember asking you not to bake for me this year Michael. Did I not?”
“Well yes Mum, but ……….”
“No buts Michael, to what extent did you not understand my instructions when I asked you not to bake for me because I’m on this dastardly diet?”
“But …..”
“No buts Michael! Instead, think diet!”

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
