The Outlaw Jesse James
A Microfiction
"Have you heard? That no account Jesse James is coming to town."
"Do tell?" said the stranger, "and what's this feller supposed to look like?
With a quirked eye, the deputy stroked his chin.
"Medium build, kind of Beedy eyes, quick on the draw.
"I see" nodded the stranger. "You got something special planned for him?"
"Nothing besides the hangman's noose." Said the other deputy.
"I'd hate to be that fella." Said the stranger.
"Union payroll just arrived too. Came by way of the stagecoach this morning. Must be at least ten thousand dollars."
"I heard it was twenty." Said the second deputy.
"Well, it just so happens I'm in the mood to drop by the bank. Would you mind showing me where it is?"
"Of course not. Henry can keep watch over here. I'll be right back Henry."
"You're a stranger at these parts."
"Of sorts." The deputy pointed with a long finger to the bank, and the stranger walked over. He was greeted by a tall teller with a lengthy draw.
"Have you heard," asked the teller politely?"
He turned to see the stranger wearing a mask and the stranger's gun pointed at him.
"Stick em up!"
