The Other Passengers
A train on its way to nowhere
I do not know where this train is taking us, and no other passengers will look at me, even when I say something to them.
“They won’t listen to you.”
An older man across the car says to me.
“Why can’t they hear me?”
He shrugs. “They don’t want to.”
“But you’re talking to me.”
“Because I want to.” He smiles.
The overhead light flickers, and his eyes lifted up.
There’s a loud thump, and we are jolted before righting ourselves.
“You should go to the next car. There are still other people to see.”
