(Chapter 5)

Jake woke up to the sound of his alarm clock; as soon as he realized he was awake, he immediately sat up in his bed. Memories from the night before came flooding back into his mind, the sight of Dylan's dead body burned his thoughts to the point that he placed both of his hands on the sides of his head and cried. Each one of the team had a special story of how they joined. Red, who's name was Matty, had just been discharged from the Marines for setting an entire field of Marijuana on fire to get his platoon high. Carlos, Black, had been an antihero who'd gotten famous for killing pedophiles and cutting off their willies. Scott, Green, had sent his abusive step dad into a tornado for beating his mom one too many times. Each of them had nowhere to belong and the Misfits became their home... their family. Dylan was one of the original 4 members, along with Jake, Lucas, and Grayson (Purple,Yellow, and White). Jake had known him since they were both 17, so to see him executed right in front of him... That made for a tough morning that day. Suddenly, Red walked into the room without bothering to knock.

"Glad to see your awake, we're going to have a special guest visiting us this morning regarding what happened last night."

Both of them took a moment to look down in silence before Jake said anything.

"Special guest? What are you talking about?"

"Renegade, he's already on his way."

"Carter Collins? He's retired isn't he? What the hell is he coming for?"

"Apparently, he wants to help figure out who's behind what happened to Dylan. He also said he was going to help us survive. which I thought was kind of funny."

"Well I don't want his help, we can take care of this ourselves. It's personal Matty, whoever hired that shooter to kill Dylan hired him to kill all of us."

"Yeah but this is Renegade we're talking about here! The guy is a legend and he's coming out of retirement to help us. At the very least we're taking a vote on it."

Jake didn't like it but he could see in his friends face how serious he was so he decided to drop it.

"Get dressed, he's going to be here any minute."

With that Red turned around and walked out the room as quickly as he had entered it. Jake got out of bed and suited up, the team made it a point to be suited up at all times during the day. It was kind of their thing and they were proud of it. Jake's hero look had been designed by his uncle, who then designed the rest of the teams in similar fashion only in their respective colors and with each having a minor personal twist included. When he was finished getting dressed he headed down stairs to the "round table", the table they all sat at for important meetings. The rest of the team was already in their seats and they were all waiting on their leader.

"Good morning guys." Jake greeted the room.

Before he could even make it to his seat there was a knock at the door.

"He's here!" Red said excitedly and got up to answer the door.

It appeared everyone else in the room knew who "He" was because nobody seemed to be asking any questions about who could be knocking. A few seconds later Red reentered the room, only now he was accompanied by Carter Collins and his partner Max Shepard.

"Everyone you all know Renegade and Noble. They're here to help us find out who was behind our brothers murder last night. It's obvious with how quick Yellow disposed of the shooter that he was just a hired gun. Someone else hired him to kill Blue and to kill the rest of us too."

Carter than spoke up following Reds introduction, "Yes gentleman and you aren't the first to be targeted either." Max then opened his brief case, pulling out the case files they received from the council the day prior and spreading across the table for the whole team to view.

"Woah... that's Cowgirl and Texan." Green said shocked.

"And the Jersey Devil too." White chimed in.

Carter gave them all a moment to take in the information before continuing. "As you can see, whoever is behind what happened to your team last night is going after all Supers. Which means he won't stop with your friend. He will keep on coming and keep on coming until all of you are dead."

There was an eerie silence in the room following that statement. No one seemed to know what to say. Then Jake decided to be team leader and speak up.

"So you came out of retirement to stop this guy and that's why you want to help us, is that right?" He asked Carter, cutting straight to the point.

"That's correct, a friend of mine reminded me how much you guys are like me back in my earlier days and I would like to help prevent your executions. Cowgirl was a friend of mine... If I could go back and help prevent hers I would but I can't. I can help your team however; it's no secret what me and my partner are capable of."

"Honestly, if it were up to me Carter, with all due respect, I'd turn down your offer right now."

Both Carter and Max were surprised to hear that.

"But?"

"But my team insisted that we take this up to a vote, so if you don't mind stepping out of the room for just a moment so we can do that, I'd greatly appreciate it."

"You got it."

With that, both Carter and Max exited the room and walked out onto the balcony.

"Can you believe that kid, we come all the way out here to help him and his team out and he doesn't even want it!"

Max, level headed as always, spoke calmly. "He reminds me of you when you were his age old friend..."

He does? How the hell is that?!"

"Well think about it, imagine I had been murdered right in front of your eyes when we younger and the very next day when all you can think about is avenging me, some retired super comes into your home and says they're going to help you. How would you have responded to that?:

"I'da told them to fuck-... okay I see what your saying."

Max just leaned up against the balcony and smiled. "Exactly."

At the round circle the team all sat and debated the pros and cons of having Carter and Max help deal with Blue's killer.

"This is Renegade we're talking about guys, the man comes out of retirement and he's here to help us." Red pleaded.

"Yeah but this is a Misfit problem and it should be taken care of by the Misfits. If anyone's going to stop this guy it should be us." Brown shot back.

"He's investigating the case regardless, you heard him Cowgirl was his friend, he's not going to stop chasing after this guy just cause we tell him not to. We might as well use his help." White rationalized.

"I agree with White on this!" Black said.

"We might not be able to stop him but we can get to the bastard responsible first." Yellow chimed in.

Green spoke next, "Yeah but he's going to be coming after us, which means Renegade is going to be close by at all times regardless... we should let him help I think."

Red looked over at Jake, who looked as if he wasn't even listening. "What about you Purple, what do you think about all this?"

Jake was staring at the one empty chair at the table, a flash back of when Dylan and him were 17 talking about starting a superhero team ran through his mind.

"What should we call it?" Jake asked

Blue looked over at him and smiled, "The Misfits!"

When the rest of the team realized this they all grew silent and looked down.

"You know what I think, I think if it were any one of us instead of Blue, he'd be screaming at us to stop debating on whether or not we let Renegade, who is going to be on our ass after this guy anyways, help. He'd say lets get to fucking work... so that's what we're going to do and if Carter Collins is going to help us do that then we're going to let him."

The rest of the team remained silent for several seconds before Black stood up.

"Dam right." He said putting his fist to his chest.

Then Red stood next, "Hell yeah" like black he put his fist to his chest as well.

One by one the rest of the team followed their lead and stood putting their fists to their chest, which was the tradition for the Misfits whenever they were about to go to battle.

"Alright, call are guests back in here Black."

"Yes Sir." Carlos answered, he then exited the room and came back with Carter and Max.

Carter looked up at Jake, "Well did you guys decide your answer?"

Jake looked back at him with an intense expression, "Yeah we did, we decided that we're going to accept your help. Nothing is more important than us stopping whoever is having Supers executed. Especially not my personal feelings. And if this guy is going to keep coming after my team, I'm not going to turn down any help to keep them alive."

Carter smiled at Jake,"Your a smart kid and a good leader. I could've never made such a mature decision when I was your age."

Red than stood from his seat,"What'ya say Renegade, lets get this mother fucker!" He reached out his hand.

Carter paused for a moment and then grabbed firmly onto the young mans hand with his own. "Lets get him!"

(Chapter 6)

Carter and Max were still with Jake and his team when an alarm went off throughout the entire house. Jake looked up towards White who was already running out of the room.

"I'm on it!" White screamed as from down the hall.

A few seconds later his voice came into the room through a loud speaker. Max thought to himself how impressive the young team of super's response protocols were.

"Alright guys, we've got a robbery going down at a jewelry store on 9th street. 911 caller reported three men all armed with automatic weapons."

Jake looked up at the team.

"Green, you and Brown go take care of it. Black, I want you and Yellow to both go with them but stay up and out of sight. You two need to have their backs in case another assassin shows up."

"I'll be going with them also," Carter declared. "If another assassin shows up I want to be there."

"Alright but just stay out of my teams way unless your going to cooperate with them. You've never been known for being a team player."

"Where'd you hear that? Me and Max have been a team since we were your age kid. Don't worry about me, I know what I'm doing."

Before Jake could say anything else Carter and his 4 teammates were already out of the room. Carter got to the front door but before he followed the team out of the building, he threw his brief case at his feet. A series of locks turned open and the brief case began to transform into a pair of boots. Carter put each one on and then the rest of his body was covered in his super suit made of a special alloy but looked like a costume out of Assassins Creed. The next second he was out the door and on top of the buildings roof.

It took Carter several moments to catch up with the 4 members of the Misfits. Black and Yellow were on a roof top over where the jewelry store was located. Black noticed Carter approaching and couldn't help but be impressed.

"Man... I thought you'd never make it, nice suit," he complimented Carter on his all back apparel.

"Sorry, this thing takes a second to get on. Where are your other two teammates?"

"There already down there." Yellow spoke up, answering the question.

Down in the street below Green and Brown walked up to the entrance of the jewelry store. They could see the three criminals and the several hostages they had taken. Brown ordered the police to stand back as green entered the store he put his hands to the ground and giant wall of rock sprouted from it, sealing his teammate in with the robbers.

One of the robbers was startled by the fact that Green just marched right in there unarmed and began to threaten him.

"What the fuck do you think your doing, do you want me to shoot this bitch?"

Before he could even raise his gun at the young woman on the floor, a gust of 75 mile per hour wind effectively unarmed all three of the robbers. The one who appeared to be in charge stood there shocked, coming to the realization that they were fucked.

"You were saying?"

Suddenly, one of the robbers began to charge at him but Scott just took a step back and a gust of wind slammed the criminal into the wall so hard that it rendered him unconscious. Without any hesitation, he did the same to the other two right after and in less than 60 seconds all three of the robbers had been unarmed and apprehended.

"Brown? You can let us out now."

"You got it!"

The rock wall that sealed the door shut disappeared and Green emerged from the store carrying the young woman who had been on the floor. He handed her over to the paramedics and the police officers thanked the two young supers for taking care of the situation without any of the hostages being injured.

"No thanks necessary sir, this is what we do." Brown assured the Sargent.

A crowd of bystanders/fans then swarmed the two heroes congratulating them and announcing their love for the the Misfits. Scott was claustrophobic, so being surrounded made him a bit an easy but he bore through it for the fans.

From the rooftop, Carlos, Lucas, and Carter, all watched down on the scene below while remaining alert for any suspicious activity. That's when Lucas noticed a man on a motorcycle coming from up the street. Warren (Brown) noticed the man at the same time as Lucas and stepped out in front of the crowd. He saw that the man had his hand gripped into his jacket and as he rode passed the group of people he raised his firearm but Warren had been a step ahead and created a rock wall large enough to cover him, Scott, and the civilians around him. Bullets were heard crashing into the rock wall but none of them were getting through. Warren was so focused on protecting everyone that he didn't even notice the blade enter the side of his body.

Like that the rider sped on forward through the street and Carter, Lucas and Carlos, all chased after him. Although, Carter got a jolt through his entire body warning him that something wasn't right. He stopped and let the two young team members proceed chasing after the shooter on their own. Scott went to join his two team members but before he could Warren called out to him.

"Scott..."

Scott looked back at his teammate to find him down on his knees and the entire group of civilians all giving him space.

"Warren! What's wrong were you hit?"

At that same moment, Carter rushed over towards where they were.

"No... there's no way one of those bullets hit me..."

He was holding his side but Scott and Carter could see the blood seeping through his suit and hands.

"We need to get him to a hospital right now!" Carter shouted.

"No, we need to get him back to base, White can heal him there. I'll carry him."

Scott then picked Warren up and flew into the air. It had only taken him several seconds to reach their HQ but by the time Scott reached the front door, Brown was already dead...
