The hooded figure sat near the weeping boy. If he had eyes, they’d be engulfed in tears too. For the first time, he truly failed.

He looked away from the overturned car in shame and guilt, for he knew there could be no redemption for the mistake with the poor girl. However, he realized he could offer the boy something he had never granted before.

With a nod and smile, the boy took hold of his skeletal hand and he and the reaper walked through the mythical green meadow.

The boy embraced his love again.
