“Will it hurt?” the darkened cloud whispered softly, setting its melodic voice adrift along the blowing wind. The little cloud closed her pillowy eyes. “I am afraid,” she admitted and all around her, the other clouds moved closer.
“I feel heavier today,” she continued. Looking down toward the reflecting surface of the lake, the little cloud stared at her deep blue hue. A feeling of fullness sagged her down. The cool breeze tingled through her completely.
“No, little one,” A larger cloud spoke. “It will feel… wonderous.”
And with that, the little cloud let go.

A Dragon's Flight
The air is cool against my scales, and I can finally breathe. The hot sun shines down through the morning mist sharp and stabby, its heat welcome on my iridescent wings. I pump them hard once more, shooting straight through a wet cloud then level off. I am above the clouds now and the world below consists of nothing but these rolling white hills and I feel utterly alone. Before that would have scared me, but now all I feel is content. Banking west, I tuck my wings in and coast several miles. The air is cooler this way and acts as an invisible compass that will direct me to my destination. Home, I whisper out loud. I am finally going home. And for that glorious morning, for the first time in a long time, all was well.

The fire brought warmth, but the cold eyes of the council pierced him like the biting winter winds. Rayne did not want to be this far from the colony, but the privacy of the issue required it. He hunched his shoulders and lowered his ears in respect and humility, anxious over his secret now revealed. If anyone could help, the elders could, but their stares around the dancing flames shook his resolve.
