The Last Dragon of Evermist

When the final dragon vanished, magic began to die. But one forgotten stable boy discovered the legend had never truly ended.

For over a thousand years, the Kingdom of Evermist flourished under the protection of dragons. Their ancient magic blessed the forests, filled the rivers with crystal-clear water, and kept darkness beyond the mountains. Every child grew up hearing tales of dragons soaring across golden skies.

Then, one by one, they disappeared.

No battles were fought.

No bodies were found.

They simply vanished.

As the centuries passed, magic faded into myth. The enchanted forests withered, floating islands crashed into the earth, and even the stars seemed dimmer. Most people accepted that dragons had gone forever.

Except for seventeen-year-old Rowan.

An orphan raised in the royal stables, Rowan spent his evenings exploring forgotten ruins instead of tending horses. He believed every legend held a grain of truth.

One rainy afternoon, while chasing an escaped colt into the Whispering Woods, Rowan discovered a hidden cave concealed behind a waterfall. Strange blue symbols glowed faintly across its stone walls.

At the cave's center rested a single silver egg.

Warm.

Pulsing.

Alive.

The moment Rowan touched it, the cave erupted with brilliant light. Ancient runes swirled through the air, and a deep voice echoed inside his mind.

"Guardian found."

The egg cracked.

A tiny silver dragon emerged, no larger than a cat, its shimmering wings sparkling like moonlight. Its golden eyes met Rowan's, and it chirped happily before curling around his shoulder.

"You waited for me?" Rowan whispered.

The dragon nodded.

"My name is Lyra."

Word spread quickly.

The Royal Council demanded the dragon be surrendered to the crown.

The High Mage declared it too dangerous to exist.

Even the king feared that old magic would awaken forgotten evils.

Rowan refused.

With Lyra beside him, he escaped into the wild lands beyond the kingdom.

During their journey, Lyra grew astonishingly fast. Every sunrise brought new strength. She learned to breathe silver fire capable of healing wounded trees, cleansing poisoned rivers, and restoring abandoned villages.

Hope returned wherever she flew.

But something else awakened.

Far beyond the Black Peaks, an ancient shadow stirred beneath the mountains.

The Void King.

Long ago, dragons had sealed him beneath the earth using the combined power of their souls. With every dragon gone, the prison weakened.

Now the final seal had broken.

Dark clouds swallowed the sky.

Creatures made of living smoke marched across the land, consuming forests and turning rivers into black sludge. Kingdoms fell within days.

People who had mocked Rowan now begged for his help.

The Oracle of Ash revealed a terrible truth.

"There was never only one dragon egg."

"There were twelve."

"The others still sleep... hidden across the world."

Guided by ancient maps and Lyra's instincts, Rowan embarked on the greatest quest Evermist had seen in centuries.

Deep beneath frozen glaciers, they found the Sapphire Dragon.

Inside a volcano's heart slept the Crimson Dragon.

Among floating islands rested the Emerald Dragon.

One by one, the legendary dragons awakened, each bringing back a forgotten form of magic.

The skies blazed with wings once more.

At last, the armies of light marched toward the Black Peaks.

The Void King emerged as a colossal beast of darkness, towering above mountains with burning crimson eyes.

His roar shattered castles.

His shadow swallowed sunlight.

The dragons attacked together, filling the heavens with streams of silver, emerald, sapphire, and crimson flame.

Yet the Void King could not be destroyed.

Only sealed again.

The oldest dragon turned to Rowan.

"The prison requires a guardian."

"If we seal him... someone must remain forever."

Rowan looked at Lyra.

She gently pressed her forehead against his.

"No."

She smiled.

"I was born for this."

Before Rowan could stop her, Lyra soared into the storm. The eleven dragons joined her, their magic merging into a radiant constellation that wrapped around the Void King.

The mountains trembled.

The darkness screamed.

Then...

Silence.

The dragons disappeared into the heavens, becoming twelve brilliant stars that had never existed before.

Years later, Rowan became known as the First Keeper of Legends.

Every night, children gathered beneath the stars as he told them about dragons—not as myths, but as friends who still watched over the world from above.

And sometimes, on clear nights, travelers claimed to see a silver dragon streak across the sky, leaving behind trails of shimmering light.

The people of Evermist would smile whenever they saw it.

Because legends, they realized, never truly die.

They simply wait for someone brave enough to believe in them again.
