The Last Days

Part II

Once the machines powered down Kinsley and Tommy exited watching their human bodies float with wires.

“Ready?!” Kinsley said with delight.

“Ready.” Tommy replied fixing his armored body.

Both of them went back to the entrance and bang firing away at the fallen demons, exploding heads, as if they were playing a video game. Phew, phew, lasers could be heard as they leaped from walls and appliances, clearing the path to find human life. When they finished the last of the demons they could see and hear what appeared to be a giant demon with three heads. When they walked out of the infirmary, the Earth was completely destroyed.

Beasts can be seen roaming the earth, the forest set ablaze; and thunder in the skies.

Boom, boom, boom! The giant walked, shaking the ground beneath the cloned soldiers, rattling the earth. The civilians in the city had sought refuge in the infirmary and were informed to not leave the habitat.

“We have to take out that beast,” Tommy said screaming as they floated above the Earth’s debris.

The demon spotted the two subjects and began unleashing more havoc on the plains. Beast after the beast, demon ghoul after demon ghoul, they fought until their armor was shattered. Feeling defeated, they asked for a sign. Warriors showed up dressed in an armor made of more than steel. An army that not only protected the piercing heart of Kinsley, but removed the head of the beast.

Flying around the beast fully loaded with arrows, laser beams, and quick stamina, the warriors can be seen conquering the world as they tackled the beast from the bottom to the top. A loud thud was heard and the demon was slayed without convene.

When Kinsley woke up from her nap, she was surrounded by the heat beaming from her cubicle, she had fell asleep while on her lunch break. The couple both worked for an advanced AI company, she couldn’t help but ask Tommy, her fiancé, if he had any encounters with demons in his life, one day after their shift ended.

“No, honey, why would you assume that I’m a demon.”

Kinsley quickly rebuttals. “I never said the demon was you. In my studies I know that we fight wars in a realm unknown to many as we transform for God.”

Kinsley wanted to grow closer with God, and in fact had sought to start a ministry, the AI company had required long hours of work and the pay was not as steep. Kinsley always complained about the job being unfulfilling. And Tommy would tell her to deal with it, as he was one of the leads and had more comfort in the company.

The company recently decided to sell, leaving Kinsley without a job and hopeless about her future. She the next best thing and that was turned to God. So, one day while at work, Kinsley thought of an idea that the company selling was her and Tommy’s way out of the business, and enrolled into school to become a Pastor. At the end of business, days after the frightened dream, after Tommy closed the workshop, Kinsley begins to talk about her thoughts on spiritual protection and their future.

“Tommy, we really need to talk about our future plans together.”

Tommy started the car, “babe everything is going to be just fine. I’ll work overtime at my dad’s church and trust me, I’ll lead like I was taught.”

“That’s exactly what I’m afraid of Tommy, you leading.” Kinsley said out loud without holding back any emotion.

Tommy looked befuddled, but refused to speak another word. As silence grew on the ride home, Kinsley could sense the energy change in Tommy. Tommy was upset, but Kinsley felt she wasn’t wrong. As they walked into their duplex, Tommy went straight to the shower without saying another word, sleep fell on the couple at night fall.

As Kinsley drifted slower than Tommy, she couldn’t help but remember the words of Pastor John Simon. “The world will end without a shallow breath, and the heavens will be reborn with the risen staff.” These words pierced her mind, and thoughts as she prayed herself to a sounding somber.

When morning came, the Lord placed in Kinsley’s heart to tell Tommy that his life will change if he would just believe.
