The Housemaid's Secret is an audiobook by Freida McFadden, narrated by Erin Bennett. It is a sequel to The Housemaid, but can be read as a standalone novel. It is a psychological thriller that follows Millie, a paroled housemaid who works for a wealthy man with a mysterious wife locked in a guest bedroom. Millie discovers the horrifying truth behind the locked door, and decides to take revenge on her employer for his crimes. The audiobook is about 10 hours and 4 minutes long, and has a 4.5 out of 5 stars rating on Amazon¹. Here is a summary of the audiobook:

The story begins with Millie being hired by Douglas Garrick, a rich and handsome businessman who lives in a luxurious penthouse. He tells her that his wife, Nina, is very ill and stays in the guest bedroom, which is always locked. He warns her not to disturb Nina or try to enter the room. Millie agrees, but she is curious about Nina, who she never sees or hears. She notices that Nina's white nightgown has blood stains on the neck, and that she sometimes cries softly behind the door.

One day, Millie decides to knock on the door, and it opens slightly. She sees Nina lying on the bed, covered in bruises and scars. She has a metal collar around her neck, attached to a chain that leads to the wall. She begs Millie to help her escape, and tells her that Douglas is a monster who tortures her every night. She says that he kidnapped her from her home in Mexico when she was 16 years old, and has kept her as his prisoner ever since.

Millie is shocked and horrified by what she sees, and feels sympathy for Nina. She decides to help her escape, and starts to plan a way to do so. She also learns more about Douglas's past, and finds out that he is a serial killer who has murdered several women before Nina. He has a secret room in his penthouse where he keeps trophies of his victims, such as their hair, jewelry, and clothes.

Millie realizes that she is in danger, and that Douglas might suspect her of knowing his secret. She tries to act normal around him, but he becomes more suspicious and paranoid. He starts to monitor her movements, and threatens to hurt her if she disobeys him. He also becomes more violent towards Nina, and tries to kill her several times.

Millie manages to contact Nina's family in Mexico, and arranges for them to come to New York to rescue her. She also contacts the police, and gives them evidence of Douglas's crimes. She hopes that they will arrest him before he kills Nina or her.

However, things do not go as planned. Douglas finds out about Millie's betrayal, and attacks her. He also discovers that Nina's family is coming for him, and prepares to fight them off. A violent confrontation ensues between Douglas and his enemies, with Millie and Nina caught in the middle.

The audiobook ends with a surprising twist that reveals the true nature of Millie's character, and the real motive behind her actions. It also shows the fate of Douglas, Nina, and their families.

The Housemaid's Secret is a gripping and suspenseful audiobook that explores themes of power, abuse, revenge, and deception. It has well-developed characters, a fast-paced plot, and a shocking ending. It is a must-listen for fans of psychological thrillers and mystery novels.
