The god Marduk was one of the main gods in Sumerian mythology, and later became the main god in Babylonian mythology.

He is often depicted as the god of war and wisdom.

His famous story is how he defeated Tiamat in an epic battle, as told in the epic Enûma Eliš.

After the victory, Marduk became king of the gods and was given dominion over the universe, He was also believed to be the protector of the city of Babylon, where the temple of Esagila was dedicated to him.

Marduk was revered with various ceremonies and rituals, and many myths and legends link his existence to important events in Mesopotamian mythology.
