Cameras captured the moment. The first black Commandant in the United States Marine Corps would be accepted into that rarified air of past heads of the Corps.

This made global news. Everyone smiled until someone yelled a racial slur towards the new Commandant. The man was carted out of the room. General Foseral Grain didn’t miss a beat.

“He forgot Commandant stove pipe!”

The room burst out into laughter and applause.

Grain’s wife Kalonia stood next to him and spoke to him. “You didn’t let that affect you. Among all of your accomplishments this is the finest of them all.”
