Dan had always dreamed of meeting Paul McCartney. When he finally had a chance to approach him in London after one of the public appearances, Sir Paul didn’t have any time to sign an autograph or exchange a couple of words and got immediately driven away. Dan was deeply offended by such blatant disrespect to his adoration. He was such a huge fan that he even created a cover band to perform Paul’s songs and learned to precisely imitate Macca’s voice.
Out of spite, he called a London auction house, where one of Paul’s guitars was open for bids and told them, as Paul, that he was taking that lot away because it was too dear to him, after all. Then he dressed in all black, put his sunglasses on, covered his license plate, and drove to the back door of the auction house, called again and informed them in Paul’s voice that he had sent his bodyguard for a pickup.
When the guitar got carried out, he signed a release, drove to the river, threw away the phone, then walked down some street where buskers were playing, picked the most promising one, handed him the guitar, and walked away.
