Scooter Jekings waved back at Steve Benson as he started down the street towards his house. There was a solemn look on his face and he had an uneasy feeling, the same kind of uneasy feeling he used to get in Iraq right before the shit hit the fan. " What do you think is causing this green light Ray" Scooter asked.

Ray Dobbs stood there with his hands in his pockets, shaking his head...."Hell if I know.... Just because I teach high school history, doesn't make me Eisenstein. Maybe some weird weather phenomenon.... Aren't the northern lights green like this??" He asked no one particular.

Jerry Stilts stood looking blankly at Ray and Scooter. "That only happens near the north and south poles, something to do with the earths magnetic field. Besides it looks nothing like this, the whole sky is green right now and we can see each other clearly. With the northern lights you can still see the night sky, the moon and stars and the clouds, you can't see none of that...It's fucking creepy." Jerry said, very much feeling uneasy as well. Something wasn't right.

"Yea, and why is the electricity out??? Hell even the street lights are not on." Steve Cone chimed in.

Just then there was an incredibly loud horn blast, It shook the entire neighborhood. Everyone's hands automatically shot up to their ears as they watched in stunned disbelieve as the first of the giant spaceships appeared in the green night sky. The spaceship was a huge rectangular cylinder, at least twenty miles long and ten miles wide. Like the sky the spaceship had an eerie green light pulsating around it. The horn was still blaring, and seemed to be getting louder. Jerry looked over to see Shooter pointing up towards middle of the spaceship, he looked up to see three giant holes opening in the back, middle, and front of the bottom of the ship. Like giant red and green hornets, hundreds of smaller ships began pouring out of the three holes. With in minutes some of them were buzzing around the Clover Valley Sub-Division. Some were starting to land, others were firing some sort of large pulsing green projectiles.

Sam Benson was now running full speed towards his wife and kids, he could plainly see his wife Johann frantically ushering the twins into the house. She then turned and ran up the drive way screaming for her husband to hurry. All Sam could hear was that damn blaring horn. Suddenly he panicked and began screaming and pointing for his wife to run, one of those smaller ships had landed not thirty feet from where she stood and it was obvious that she had not seen or heard it. Sam watched in horror as four large centipede like creatures scurried out of the ship. They were huge, at least ten feet long and about four feet in thickness. The creatures were solid black with hard shiny scaly bodies. One of the monstrosity's quickly scurried over to Johann Benson, It stood up on it's hind legs and just hovered above her for a moment. Then with out warning, a large pincer clasped Johann's neck and popped her head off like a giant grape, it landed hard on the concrete and began rolling down the driveway.

Sam Benson stopped running in mid stride and just fell to his knees right there in the middle of the street, tears now streaming down his cheeks, his hands clasped above his head. A second creature had joined the first and had quickly torn his wives leg off , and Sam watched helplessly as the thing sank it's large needle like mandibles into it.

He just knelt there in the street witnessing the savage killing of the love of his life and his best friend. Not only had those things killed Johann in cold blood, but they were actually eating her right there in the driveway. Sam's anguish over his wife's untimely death was short lived as one of those pulsing green projectiles hit him square in the back and he simply evaporated into thin air. There was no blood, no guts, no nothing, a puff of green smoke and Sam Benson was just gone.

Ray Dobbs was still standing beside Scooter, his mouth was wide open and he was trembling from head to toe. His bladder had let loose on its own and now the front of his pants were soaking wet as he watched the carnage and chaos unfolding all around him. Scooter was yelling something, but all Ray could hear was the blaring of the horn, it now seemed to be even louder impossibly. Suddenly Scooter hit Ray hard with his shoulder, knocking him out of his stupor as he, Scooter, and Jerry all three fell to the ground at once, just as two of those pulsating projectiles passed just above their heads. Ray helplessly watched as Steve and Casey were instantly evaporated.

The next thing Ray knew, Scooter and Jerry were pulling him up off the ground and all three men made their way back to Scooters front door and hurriedly stepped back into the beautifully darkened house, quickly locking the door behind themselves .
