The Dragons Came Home

A long fight, but for what?

There weren't always dragons in the Valley. People feared them. The dragons were powerful beings. Elemental beasts. They were unpredictable. But of course, we chose to be on the opposing side. The side that had fierce determination to destroy everything left of the kingdom of dragons. We were once told that dragons protected us a long time ago... But not anymore. Everyone feared to speak up against the Hell Borns once they started turning us against the dragons. Ever since then, the dragons left us. Who could blame them? Why should we? We turned our backs on the only thing that kept us safe. Now it's just blind loyalty that's keeping us from losing our homes.

We were told many times to stay away from the Valley, that nothing good came out of wandering outside the safety of our strong walls. As long as we stayed in our town we were safe. So much for that. It was so boring to live inside of a box. Not being able to explore the world. But the world was dangerous. The world was full of monsters and creatures that are out to get us.

It didn't take long for the Hell Borns to turn on us though. Other colonies of humans started to rise up against them when they began to learn the truth about why they were taking over. When they "won" the war, they would turn on us too. And that news spread like fire throughout the land.

So what did we do? Nothing. We sat like sitting ducks when the Hell Borns came to our isolated town. Everyone tried to say that we were still on their side and that we wouldn't dare turn against them. But they didn't believe it. All hell broke lose after that.

But the last thing we'd ever expected happened, the dragons came to the Valley! They came to our aid! The biggest and the bravest dragons came and protected our town! It was like nothing I had ever seen before. They held the power of a thousand men. Effortlessly driving away the Hell Borns back to where they came from... and not once did they harm us. Not once did they burn our homes... tear down our walls... or harm the innocent.

We had learned that the dragons themselves had lost their own home. Nothing but ruins left of their dwelling. Half of their own kind lost to the dark forces that wished to take over the lands. They had chosen to go out in search of the human towns that had turned against the Hell Borns to give them protection and aid. It was a blessing in disguise. Now that the humankind have rejoined forces with the dragons once again, our world had a better chance of surviving against the dark forces.

Now, after so many ages, dragons have finally made it back to the Valley. Where in some people's minds it was just a memory... or legend. A legend that maybe at one point the dragons were on our side. But no, they were always on our side. We had just chosen to be the stubborn ones to choose a side over a web of lies. Maybe now with the dragons back in the valley, they will be able to protect us... and we will be able to take care of them in return. The dragons never gave up. They kept fighting, not just for them but for all involved. We owe it to them after all these years of the betrayal that mankind has caused. So if you see a dragon in the Valley this spring season, be kind and give it your thanks. They care more than we ever could.
