The Unhappy Crow Discovers True Beauty

Deep within a sprawling forest, lived a crow named Corvus. Corvus wasn't like the other crows. While his brethren reveled in their glossy black feathers and cawed with delight, Corvus dreamt of vibrant colors. He longed to be a shimmering blue jay or a fiery cardinal, anything but plain black.

One scorching summer day, Corvus spotted a shimmering stream cascading down a rocky cliff. "Perhaps," he thought, "this magical water holds the key to my transformation!" He swooped down, taking a long draught. He then dipped his wings, expecting a burst of color.

Disappointment washed over him as he saw no change. Dejected, he perched on a nearby branch. A wise old owl, observing Corvus' plight, hooted softly. "Why the long face, young one?"

Corvus poured his heart out about his desire to be different. The owl chuckled, "Change, my friend, is not about acquiring a new coat. It's about appreciating the unique beauty you already possess."

Corvus scoffed. "Unique? I'm just a dull crow!"

The owl gestured towards the stream. "Look closer, Corvus. What do you see?"

Corvus peered into the water. To his surprise, his black feathers shimmered with an iridescent sheen, reflecting the vibrant hues of the forest around him. "But... it was always there?"

The owl nodded. "Indeed. We often overlook the gifts we hold, chasing after fleeting fancies. Your blackness is a canvas, Corvus. It allows you to blend with the shadows, to navigate the night with ease. It's a strength, not a weakness."

Corvus finally saw himself in a new light. He spread his wings, reveling in the hidden beauty of his feathers. From that day on, Corvus embraced his unique nature. He soared through the forest, no longer a discontented crow, but a proud, black marvel.

Moral: Don't be envious of what others have. True beauty lies in appreciating your own unique strengths and qualities.
