The slam of hammer thundered twice as the disdain of disagreement and the cheers of approval raged in the hallway. "Gentleman! Our very freedoms and liberties are threatened by the imposing of such restrictions! We cannot continue to linger amidst neutrality! We must act and we must act decisively!" a Young Man declared. "You're not wrong in that our ability to freely express and articulate as we please is under the crossfires of political aspirants! Those who would seek power by any means and all means regardless of the rights that they trample! But I ask you: Is there no hope for a more peaceful resolution? Is there no way we can negotiate with those so that we may at the very least, state our case, Johnny?" another Man suggested.

"We are dealing, with tyrants, Tommy! When Europe continued to appease the onslaught of Adolf Hitler and the third Reich as he almost consumed the continent of Europe, what did they did accomplish? Did they not inevitably engage and almost become destroyed in the process? When America stood by and allowed Japan to lay siege Pearl Harbor, did they not inevitably face the aftermath of their neutrality? No, it is a gross measure of imbecility to continue to think they will have any words to share when their resolve shows how they have shut down all discussion and stifle any opposition. We are dealing, with tyrants, Tommy! Tyrants!" Johnny replied.

"Here, here!" a loud thunder of approval shot into the air as the hammer slammed twice again to settle them down. A man arose from his chair, eager to make his presence known as he stood uprightly. "I say, we start going to the streets and taking them head on while we're at it! Make these tyrants understand the depth of their own folly and take the fight to their own territory!" the Man stated. More approval shot into the air while other shook their heads. Johnny shook his head in disapproval. "I do not think it wise to condone or engage, in violence. We cannot stoop to the measure of those who use intimidation, stalking, or harassment and then attempt to try define as different then they are, Morgan!" Johnny stated. Morgan scoffed.

"You speak boldly of taking decisive action, but then relent on the prospects of engaging the battlefield? How do you then propose to act decisively on a group of tyrants if you are not willing to crush them with an iron fist? Are you proposing cowardice, Johnny?" Morgan mocked.

"Here, here! Let them have it!" many in the hallway continued to cheer.

Johnny cleared his throat as he prepared to speak. "I'm a firm believer in the concept of making a distinction between me and my opponents, and the manner of which we engage in conflict so that history will have a more hopeful account as to what took place and how such characters responded accordingly. The question is not whether we are to fight or not. The question is, how do we engage in conflict without sinking to the very levels of those who do not suffer words or honest discussion? We must make a distinction between their rash violence and tyranny, and our case for freedom! When John Adams took up the case for the British soldiers after the events of the Boston Massacre, was it because of his deep love of the British or the tyrant King George, or was it to make the distinction between mob justice and equal justice under the law? When Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson became the Chief Prosecutor of the American Staff against Germany during the trials of Nuremburg, was it because of his empathy for the Nazi defendants, or so that the process taken to relay judgment against the atrocities and the crimes against humanity would stand better in history, and so that they could develop a record of the the Nazi's criminality? If we are to respond to injustice and atrocity, let it be with the restraint of wrath and to the stay the very unruly hand of vengeance, so that our case is not only more plausible to the unaware, but is more effective in fighting against tyranny! History and man kind judge battles on both the victory and how the victory was achieved! If we are to fight for the cause of liberty, let it be with the principles that ring true with liberty, freedom, and justice for all!" Tommy replied.

Their was silence throughout the room. Then another Man arose to make his opinion. "And so how, I ask, if we cannot fight or engage in physical violence against those who deem it a means to an end, can we establish our grievances and complaints so that others will know our position with regards to those who are not willing to have open and honest discussion?" the Man said with a deeper voice.

Johnny turned and gazed at him with a smile. "The way our forefathers did. With a declaration, speaking boldly and defiantly, Benjamin," Johnny declared with a confident grin.

...

"Look! There are people gathering at the billboard! What is it?" a Woman asked. "A debate club has defied the school student leadership! It's causing a ruckus!" a Man stated. They pushed their way through to the billboard as they began to read.

"Throughout the course of a nations history where the decadence of morality begins to decline, and the very liberties that all mankind holds sacred and dear are threatened by a vast tyrannical majority with a violent intention for the apprehension of unrestrained and unchallengeable power, it is both necessary to establish the defense of expression and speech, and to define the causes to which such fundamental rights are coming under harsh scrutiny and overwhelming oppression. We, the debate club of this college campus, object to the stifling of speech and expression on this campus, and the relentless attacks on the pursuit of truth in its grand entirety, and demand the resolution of the very actions taken to silence and quench speech and expression, to be declared unlawful and unfit for this campus. In the pursuit of solving a problem with regards to the solution deemed fit as the answer, it is both improper, unlawful, and a threat against liberty itself to stifle the pursuit of whether such solutions towards a particular problem are either effective or counter-productive all the while silencing and subjecting to violence all dissent, disagreement, and discussion of it entirely. Moreover, we also demand the protection of our right to speak and express freely, without constant harassment or violence, and demand such aggressors be held accountable their actions! We demand the impartial treatment with regards to our rights, and the fair treatment throughout this process!"

-Johnny J, Tommy T, Benjamin B of the Clearwater College Campus Debate Club.

"How do you think this is going to go?" the Man asked. The Woman shrugged as they held hands and walked down the hallway.
