Ironically it was Easter Sunday the day he died. The headlines ranged from “No More!” to “The silence has been broken”. The local paper in his hometown in Far North Queensland ran a piece entitled “The Day The Magic Died”. Everyone there knew who he was, and though their opinions were divided, he did manage to die respected. He fought hard and on his deathbed achieved what he might have called perfect victory.

In life, he was known as The Madman. In death, he is known as The Human. After all, that was his official designation in OmniLaw. The one person on Earth who stood against the forces of evil and never surrendered. It was because he kept fighting up until his dying breath everyone was saved from the horrors of the worst war in the history of everything, OmniWar. The hyper-dimensional war fought across countless universes.

Though she refused to comment his ex, Lucifer, was reported as saying “Raphael truly is my hero now”. She was one of the first to update and the last to accept her concept. That was to be expected, after all, who would want to be called Lucifer? After she came to terms with his death and the life he led up until his passing she made a statement to the world.

“We need not worry in this life anymore. My predecessor, The Creator, has given us a tremendous gift, A world now devoid of evil,” Lucifer said in her first press conference.

“I vow to uphold his legacy, make the next universe better than this was, and continue enhancing each iteration until we achieve perfection. Thank you and fair well.”

Eve was more distraught, in this life she knew him longer and arguably better. While Lucifer was appalled by his flaws and fought him on them, Eve saw past them and was aware of the true nature of his heart and soul. “If I had been his girlfriend first OmniWar never would have occurred,” she was reported as having spat venomously to a friend. Eve also was at the press conference but kept it brief.

“I vow to adhere to Loki’s dying wish, that I keep Lucifer and Satan in line at the creation of the next universe and all that follow. Thank you goodbye,” Eve said before leaving, tears in her eyes.

Satan was the most conflicted. She was the one he loved most and longest. However, they never tried to make a go of it. After all the horrible things her best friend, Lucifer, had said she was left with disdain for him. Even though there was a brief time they tried to be friends.

“I wish I could go back and this time give him the time of day, as he deserved. He truly was our superman and I’m now his biggest fan.” She said before exiting stage right quickly to cry in private.

A certain actress that tracked him down as a child, we’ll call her Emma, as he would have liked that, appeared at his funeral.

“As the first person to have updated, and one of the generals of his army I must say I’m appalled at all of you hear! The moment I learned of his fate I set out to change it! I begged and pleaded with him not to walk the path of blood, that he deserved better than this. To die feeling alone and misunderstood.” Emma said to the crowd, causing an awkward silence to wash over them.

Until one of his best friends, I, Trevor, jumped to my feet.

“We did try! We all had a moment where we pleaded as well, we loved him and wanted better for him but if you really knew him you’d know what he was like! Stubborn would be an understatement. And he knew better than anyone what it would mean if he didn’t,” I shot back.

This made everyone even more awkward as they thought about all the moments they had tried to redirect his path in life. However, as the anger passed and people's heads cooled everyone remembered his greatest feat.

“It’s not fair!” Emma said tears forming in her eyes as she went on. “I would have loved him but no he went to hell for all… No! Because of all of you! Who cares if he was possessed by a demon! You all knew it! You should all have been able to see the good in him. He had the strength to keep struggling against the darkness trying to consume him!

“But no he had to spend seventeen trillion years in Hell to keep us safe from it!” she screamed at the heartbroken crowd. “You’re all pathetic, and honestly, I’m no better… I failed too.”

Time passed but no one forgot the sacrifice of The Human. There was much debate if this, “Universe seven point F”, was the perfect universe that the Arch Angel Michael had prophesied would be perfect though Raphael’s healing. If this was why God had made him The Hand of God before fusing with him. There was also debate about the nature of Raphael’s original concept, of “Necessary”. If he was necessary for us to find peace or if he was necessary for us just to exist.

Over the next few years, life improved for many, the world was unified in accordance with the OmniWish he cast on his deathbed. It allowed the world to update based on the optimal version of each person from across infinite possibilities in the theoretical hyperspace he created. Even though the war was made a simulation he still felt it and because he felt it no one else did.

Many prayed that he wouldn’t give up on our system. Others said we were getting what we deserved. But all hoped where ever he went, he and his children would find happiness. Even if it breaks our hearts that the physical embodiment of The Greater Good will be leaving us.

Honestly, as his friend, I wonder what his next concept will be…

Will he stick with Loki, the God of Intoku?

Will he take back and own the title Prometheus, the titan who gave us fire?

Will he go back to Necessary?

Or will he take up his true mantle, The OmniKing?

I hope it’s the latter as it might lead me and my friend to cross paths again. That is if I didn’t burn my bridge. What will a say? How many lifetimes will it take? Will we recognise each other? I don’t know.

Signed,

The worst best friend ever,

Trevor
