Inside the Gotham metropolis the snow came down at a heavy pace and the greatest of all time executive put final single ticket baseball game reservations into the computer. Interrupted, when the phone rang Mr. Penguin stopped checking his stock portfolio.

“Send the character using the cane prop and the other one always claiming to be heartbroken,” the decision maker ordered, observing the frozen white ice coating the advertisement marketing area, ‘explain it’s a three-day holiday at our creative tropical island compound, and when they return there should be, a successful box office, song and dance routine.”

Finding warm comfort, leaving Picadilly Square Doc Simon caught his breath, inhaling clean air.

“Have to say that hits the spot,” he commented picking up his cane off the baggage claim conveyor belt.

“Why do you use that thing?” Robert, his travelling companion inquired.

“Back in the military, I was engaged in a police action,”

“Vietnam?”

“No, Bob my fiancé found me asleep with her dance Captain, resting her eyes next to me,” Doc Simon explained, “so I said goodbye to the girl and hello to a smashed knee cap.”

After all the bags were packed the two walked the postcard friendly beach and watched the water approach then retreat like a matinee audience. “End of day one, Doc, have we come up with a plot?”

“Yes, Robert, how about this middle-aged man, dealing with his wife’s death,”

“Sounds great I can choreograph a few musical numbers and call it,” Robert suggested.

“The Goodbye Girl,” Doc Simon proclaimed.

Later in the evening the two were dining outside, viewing the ocean when a disturbance in the background started them both,

“What do you mean, a family show,” the voice shouted into the cell phone, “I put Vegas inspired sexy dressed dancers, looking pretty into the spotlight,” she paused, “isn’t that how you start a family!”

Hearing the cover protector flip the bartender jumped in, “can I get you anything?”

Holding back tears the damsel in distress asked for a double shot sedative, “do you know, when the next flight back north is?”

“They are all cancelled,” the bartender handed over the drink, “apparently that snowstorm got way out of hand.”

“How many rooms do you have in this place?”

“We are booked, due to all the flight cancellations,”

Overhearing the sad plight Robert and Simon rose to the challenge, “did you say you are a choreographer?” Robert tactfully acted professionally, not to break his own heart.

“We are here working on a few numbers ourselves, why don’t you join us, and we can make sweet music together,” the more confident Simon continued.

“My name is Carolina, I am from the south,” she put out her hand, “they kicked me off that boat over there and told me to find my own way home.”

“I am sure if you let us insert your ideas into our new musical show ‘The Goodbye Girl,’ we all will be able to go home together when global warming returns.”

Months passed and during the latter stages to the bitter conditions the production ‘The Goodbye Girl’ received rave reviews. When the curtain opened on the year-end award show Carolina comfortably sat in between Robert and Simon.

“And for the best song and dance routine, the winner is,” the presenter announced, “’They Will Be Playing My Song,’ Simon the choreographer, and lyrics written by Carolina Schuster.”

Despite Robert once again leaving the competition empty handed, the theatrical book maker from Chicago continued to put on a strong façade, “Robert, such a wonderful show,” the pinstripe financer approached, “I knew sitting in my office if I sent you and Simon down to our Tropical Island, a winner would come back,”

“Thank you, Mr. Penguin, we were on the right track,” Robert mentioned, “but when Carolina Schuster joined us at the bar.”

“And that is why I fired her from the cruise line.”

It is believed today Robert continues to travel down to the Tropical Island while Simon and Carolina publish under the name ‘Simon and Schuster.’ As for Mr. Penguin, when there is a cold day in the Gotham Picadilly Circus metropolis, you know where he sends the most talented.’
