The fall leaves crunched under Mikayla’s boot. The sun was setting, and she and her boyfriend Kevin were lost. “How long did you say the hike would be? Your uncle’s cabin isn’t anywhere in sight.”
“Thirty minutes north,” Kevin replied.
“It’s been two hours,” Mikayla sighed, looking at her watch.
Kevin checked his compass and the needle spun aimlessly. Mikayla peered over his shoulder, noticing the faulty device, and gasped, “Kevin, the compass is broken!”
They exchanged a worried glance, realizing they had been wandering in the wrong direction.
