It was a crisp autumn afternoon as Annora joined her friend, Eamon, for their customary hunting expedition. The forest beckoned to them with its vibrant tapestry of orange and gold, the leaves gently rustling in the breeze. With their bows slung over their shoulders and their quivers filled with finely crafted arrows, they ventured deeper into the wilderness.

For hours they wandered through the dense underbrush, their footsteps blending harmoniously with the chorus of chirping birds and buzzing insects. The sun began its slow descent towards the horizon, casting long shadows that stretched like fingers across the forest floor. Annora's heart skipped a beat as she realized how late it had become.

"By the Stars!" she exclaimed, glancing at the position of the sun. "We must make haste, Eamon! My mother will be worried sick."

Eamon nodded in agreement, his hazel eyes reflecting a tinge of worry. Together, they retraced their steps through the foliage, their pace quickening as they grew more determined to reach the marketplace before darkness fell.

As they emerged from the outskirts of the forest, Annora's heart sank at the sight that met her eyes. The once lively marketplace now lay in disarray, its stalls overturned and goods strewn about haphazardly. A group of soldiers on horseback thundered through the narrow streets, instilling fear into the hearts of the remaining villagers.

Determined not to be cowed by these oppressors, Annora sought refuge in a small dilapidated shed nestled amidst the chaos. Peering out from a crack in its wooden walls, she observed the soldiers wreaking havoc upon innocent lives. Anger bubbled within her as she clenched her fists tightly.

"What kind of men are these?" she muttered under her breath. "Rascals indeed."

Her resolve hardened as she noticed a few villagers attempting to gather what little remained of their belongings. Annora knew she couldn't allow her own frustrations to hinder her duties as a daughter. With a deep breath, she stepped out of the shed and began scouring the damaged marketplace for the food supplies her mother had entrusted her to purchase.

With the soldiers still looming in the area, Annora's search became both challenging and perilous. She darted from stall to stall, snatching up any remaining provisions she could find. Her nimble fingers gripped tightly onto fresh fruits, bags of grain, and bundles of herbs.

As twilight cast its ethereal glow upon the horizon, Annora finally emerged from the marketplace. The sky was ablaze with hues of pink and purple, a tranquil scene that contrasted sharply with the chaos behind her. But as she took her first triumphant step towards home, a chilling realization dawned upon her - she had lingered too long in her quest for sustenance.

The tolling of bells resonated through the air, signaling the onset of curfew. Fear welled up within Annora's veins like icy tendrils as she knew what came next. The ever-vigilant soldiers would patrol the streets, capturing anyone found outside past six o'clock.

Before she could react, a rough hand grasped Annora's shoulder, pulling her back into the clutches of darkness. She turned to face the soldier, his eyes glint, with authority and determination. "No, please!" she pleaded, her voice quivering with desperation. "I didn't mean to stay out this late. I was just trying to provide for my family!"

The soldier's grip tightened around her arm, his stoic expression betraying no compassion. "Your excuses won't save you from the law," he said firmly, leading her through the labyrinthine streets towards the towering castle that loomed in the distance.
