The inventor watched nervously as the clockwork automaton sputtered with an uneasy buzz.
Suddenly, the gears whirred as the machine roared to life.
He stepped back, admiring his handiwork, and his heart swelled with pride, watching in a daze as his creation sprang to life before his eyes.
But when he reached out to touch it, he was zapped with a sudden jolt of electricity.
With a flash of light, he disappeared, leaving only the hiss of steam and the clank of metal in his wake. Had his time machine truly worked, or did he simply vanish into thin air?
