The Case of the Missing Daisy Box
A glitter trail, a missing box, and a sister’s secret game

It happened that morning—quiet, pale, and far too early for trouble—when Detective Mira Hartley discovered that Daisy’s keepsake box had vanished.
The box wasn’t valuable in the way jewellery shops measured worth, but it mattered. Inside were Daisy’s favourite trinkets: a silver bracelet, a few heart‑shaped notes from friends, and a handful of coins and dollars she’d collected from her travels. It was sentimental treasure, the kind that glowed with memories.
Mira stood in Daisy’s room, hands on her hips, scanning the scene. Nothing was broken. Nothing was forced open. But something was wrong.
A thin trail of silky hair—clearly fake—lay scattered across the carpet like breadcrumbs. Mira crouched, lifting a strand. Smooth. Shiny. Synthetic.
“Someone with a wig,” she murmured.
The trail led out of the room, down the hallway, and into the garden. Dew clung to the grass, sparkling like tiny diamonds. Birds chirped as if nothing unusual had happened, but Mira’s instincts buzzed. She followed the hair until it simply… stopped.
No box. No culprit. Just silence.
“Too easy,” she muttered. “Too deliberate.”
Then she noticed something else: glitter. A shimmering dusting of pink and gold, catching the sunlight. Another trail—messier, more chaotic, as if the thief had been in a hurry.
She sighed. “Silky hair and glitter. Who loves both?”
Her younger sister, Lila, came to mind immediately. Lila adored glitter—she practically lived in it. But Lila had been exhausted last night, barely able to keep her eyes open. And even if she had taken the box, she would still be clutching it in her sleep like a dragon guarding treasure.
So Mira turned to the next suspects: her fans. Especially the three little girls who followed her detective adventures like loyal puppies—Mina, Chloe, and Star. They loved sparkles, mysteries, and Mira herself.
She found them sitting on the steps outside, eating cereal from colourful bowls.
“Morning, girls,” Mira said, folding her arms. “Quick question. Where were you at 4 a.m.?”
They exchanged glances, then burst into giggles.
“We were awake!” Mina said proudly.
“Watching YouTube!” Chloe added.
“Your channel!” Star finished. “You uploaded that glitter sparkle thing!”
Mira blinked. “You watched my video at four in the morning.”
They nodded enthusiastically, cereal crunching in rhythm.
“And you didn’t leave the house?”
“Nope,” they chorused.
That alibi was annoyingly solid.
Mira paced for a moment, replaying the clues in her mind. Fake hair. Glitter. A trail that ended too neatly. Someone wanted her to follow it—but not too far.
Seven minutes later, Mira found herself standing in front of Fabulous, the local boutique where jewellery, clothes, and beauty treatments shimmered behind glass displays. If someone wanted to hide a jewellery box, this was the place.
She stepped inside—and froze.
Lila stood at the counter, beaming like she’d won a prize. When she saw Mira, she clapped her hands.
“You solved it!” she squealed.
Mira blinked. “Solved what?”
Lila reached behind the counter and lifted Daisy’s missing box. “The detective game! I hid it as a challenge. The girls helped me set it up.”
Mira stared at her. “You… what?”
Lila nodded proudly. “We wanted to test your skills. The hair was from my costume wig. The glitter was from your video props. The girls promised not to tell you.”
Mira exhaled, half relieved, half exasperated. “You nearly gave me a heart attack.”
“But you found me,” Lila said, hugging her. “You always do.”
Later that afternoon, Daisy received her box back—untouched, unharmed, and now part of a story she would retell for years.
And Mira? She simply smiled.
A detective never turned down a mystery… even when the culprit was her own sister.
