The Blacksmiths Call

A story of a young man and a mysterious letter he receives

By Abdul AhadPublished 2 years ago • 3 min read

I was late for my train. Midnight had fallen, I was rushing to the station. My bags weighed on my back. My destination was the northern part of our country—a place I had always dreamed of visiting, where snow-covered mountains towered over deep valleys and ancient, towering trees. The invitation was unexpected and shredded in mystery, a strange letter with all expenses paid. Yet, the thrill of the journey was shadowed by unease. Who was this mysterious person urging me to abandon my mundane life and join him in this remote, enchanted land?. He wrote in the letter, "Mr. Keats, We are anxious for your arrival. We are in dire need of your grand knowledge of blacksmithing. Come and you will be handsomely rewarded". I was shocked to read the letter because not any of my acquaintances knew of this hobby of mine.

I reached the station and the attendant told me that the train was late. Never before had I traveled on the train, and I was quite excited. Nevertheless, I made my way to the platform, and what I saw made my world light up. This dark moonless night, suddenly felt like it had more life than the day. There she was standing alone and frightened with her unparalleled beauty. I didn't know who she was despite the fact we lived in a small city where almost everyone knew each other. Maybe she was a traveler, I couldn't say. After a moment, I realized that I wasn't admiring her beauty; I was staring at her, so I stopped and took a seat. I thought I should ask her name, I don’t know what stopped me weather it was her beauty that seemed out of my reach or the loss of my words that what would I say to her. I sat there contemplating when she got out of my sight.

The train arrived; I boarded it and sat in my seat. The thoughts about the mysterious letter were nowhere to be found in my mind, I only was thinking of her. I hoped that maiden would sit in the empty seat next to mine. I waited, while my eyes searched for her through the windows but she was nowhere to be found. As if she was an angel and had disappeared in thin air. My heart was full of hope, and I thought she might have boarded the train and my eyes had missed her. The engine started, and we were off l, headed north to the city of Baladen. It was going to be a two-day journey. The journey went peacefully, and we reached on time on the 3rd day's morning. I waited to see if I could find the maiden, the train left everyone was off but I couldn't find her.

It was a chilly morning, and a person was waiting for me who even knew me by face. I didn't recognize him before in my life. There was a horse carriage waiting for us, in that cold city We headed of. The carriage stopped at the biggest manor of the city. In my whole life I only had seen poverty, how could I an orphan imagine that I would be welcomed at a such place. People greeted me with respect and I was seated in a grand room full of ornaments. A maid came and said "The mistress would meet me now". I followed her into an even big room, I was in awe of this manor. There was a beautiful women standing in front of me wearing a red dress so stunning that the color of blood seamed bland. But she was no where near the beauty of the young maiden I saw on the station, pity I couldn't find her.
