Another year has passed, another sun has rose an fallen like the leaves of first autumn. Yet I still sit in this dark room full with only the stench of mildew an sulfur. As I glare out my window seal, the liquid methan raining down I see no future no hope in this world or any hopes to explore the great unknown galaxy. I have been stuck on this planet, this orphanage since I could remember.
My caretaker Sv’kali has a kind soul, unlike the rest, caretaker would be a very loose term with the others. I hear the yelling from down the hall, a common comradely,a knot slowly begins in the pit of my being, an uncontrollable urge that the worst an best thing is gonna happen tomorrow of all days I will finally be leaving.
I turn 18 an in the morning an will be set free from this dreadful place, the daunting feeling of leaving everything you know with nothing more the the untutored knowledge Sv’kali generously passed down to me. I was their last student before they retire. So in the morning we both will be starting a new journey. Theirs will be sitting home at peace. While I trek into undiscovered territory. I have never seen beyond the red walls of the orphanage, though I have heard rumors of this planet it’s known for mining an waste management in this solar system. They say u either take a job at one of the plants an live in proverty or you live on the outskirts, eating scraps taking other forms of chemicals to stay alive. Barley able to live, with no hope or future stuck in an endless cycle.
The door to my room adurptly opens without a knock.
Zan! U have to come quick! Shouts Red.
The only kid in here I’d ever call a friend. I remember first meeting him he came when he was 5 his parents starship had crashed into the surface, killing everyone except Red. The starship had done some damage to one of the mills, the owner tried to take Red as compensation but Sv’kali had stepped in an demanded the child be safely brought into the red walls until he was old enough. 10 years has passed now,an he is now 15. He vents to me all the time about the fear he has for his life if he remains here past his 18th birth year. When he first showed up he was a scrawny little guy, that radiant warmth hope and joy his dark olive skin and his giant green eyes he was indistinguishable from the rest of my peers , his transformation from Sv’kali’s training has bulked him up some, preparing him an really the rest of us for our daunting lives ahead of us. His hope warmth and joy had never faded he had down moments but always told me there is a silver lineing you just have to know where to look.
Zan! Are you asleep? Come on you have to see this! Shouted Red again this time with alittle more excitement in his voice that I have never heard.
What is it Red?
It’s a vyalow pirate ship it landed in the red walls!
A ship landing in the red walls was very abnormal, but a pirate ship nonetheless was extremely rare in this part of the star system.
In a hurry to see this excitement I grabbed my hand-me-down torn rain coat. Riddled with tears an holes it didn’t stop all the rain but it’s kept at least most of me dry.
I dashed out of my room down the dusty corridor to the front of the our building past the kitchen and the two largest classrooms. I see Red right in front of me, trying to catch up to him ,he has become a lot faster then when he first arrived.
Wait up Red! Has anyone come out of the ship yet?
Not sure I came as soon as I saw it starting to land I was outside in the garden trying to get my green gallos to bloom.
Red has been trying to cultivate a garden even though all the caretakers have told him this planet lacks the ability to provid life naturally. Yet Red never losses hope.
As we round the corner to the entryway of the building the flash of the nitrogen filled lighting fills the room with blinding green light, in the brief moment u could see the silhouettes of what I assume are the crew members of the ship through windows. Sv’kali appears out of no where.
What is this? At this time of night none the less. They are barley able to utter underneath a huge yawn.
Zan! Red! What are you two doing out of bed?! They demanded
We heard the ship! Red shouts before really thinking about the consequences for us being out of our dorms this late.
You better hurry an get back to your dorm before another careta…. BOOM!
The door opens violently lighting strikes again but this time no thunder after just a silhouette standing in the door frame.
Sv’kali! Long time no see! Yells the unidentified being
Who is it? How do I know you? Sv’kali commanded. This is secured under the federation act of…
Yea yea yea I know. You don’t have to go through trouble. They interrupted You know just well why I am here. Said the figure.
Sv’kali creeps closer to try an identify the individual keeping two of her four arms behind her to make sure we don’t do anything rash.
Davox? Is that you? Sk’vali asked?
That’s commander Davox now. Laughed deeply Davox. It’s been a long time hasn’t it? 13 years has passed an I’m here to pick up my boy, his one red eye moves around the room an locks on to me and Red. He begins to walk closer his face becoming more visible. I started to look at his features he has a bionic left eye scars running down the left part of his face, bald with a dark red beard.
Red whispers. Zan you look just like him.
Sv’kali explodes in excitement. Davox! I heard rumors u were dead or, u got eaten by a tigarlin on Furro! Wrapping him up with all four arms the mans glare never leaves Zan.
Ha! Like Davox would be killed but wuch petty little things! He shouted still his glare was intensely settled on Zan.
I see you kept him in good shape and health. His eyes now moved back to Sv’kali. I can never thank you enough for keeping him safe. But it is time that he learns the truth an leaves with me.
My boy Zan! This will be the start of a new life, this will be the conclusion to what you know, it will be the great begging to the end.
