With his head down and his chin on his chest, he walked to the red wooden barn across the land. Martin's long dark blond hair onto his shoulders moved forwards and backwards all the time, his armrests besides his body and they went with the moves of his body. The last few months were a nightmare. The Summer breeze in his face didn't seem to make him a little bit happy. He even cursed at the sun, because he found it very annoying in his sight.

He feels he has some load in his shoes. It seems his face was too swollen, and his headaches were increasing over the last few weeks. Martin didn't know how to keep up his father's business. He neglected that.

His face into his hands, Martin shakes his head a little bit. He didn't know how to place all his feelings. He felt a little bit lost. This is the first time he walks to the barn where his father died two months ago. He was tired. Being tired made him even more tired. He filled his time with events and projects he want to do.

He never wanted to feel sad about the loss of his father. He found himself in the attic painting portraits, being in the garage repairing his car, walking through the nearest woods and going fishing, but never touched his beautiful violin. His mother, Laura, has lots of difficulty with the sudden loss of her husband.

It is a long walk from his parent's house to the other side of the road. The barn is red, high height, with three horse pens in the stable, and a place to sleep when the horse caretaker was too tired to go home. Now Martin goes there because he had to find the financial books of this barn. He never knew where his father kept those books. To sort things out, he has to find them.

When Martin walks down the path on the small stones - each stone made so much noise that he looked down once - he heard something from the barn. It is weird because he had to sell all the animals from the farm. The farm was in financial trouble after the death of his father. 'One more issue to solve', he thought. He tries to keep up the momentum of what he sees right now. His mind was somewhere else.

The bailiffs have given him two weeks to get everything in order, to pay all the bills, and whether it is wise to sell the family business or continue with something else. Is it wise to buy new animals? Is it possible to rent out the land? He has no one to share this with. He is the only child of the Smiths.

When he got closer to the barn, he saw a pram. From afar it looked like a grey with a black pram, but getting closer, it was more a dark brown one. 'What is this doing on my property?', he thought. He speeds up his tempo to the barn. Behind the barn, there was a small child. This child looked like one year old. It could walk a little bit. When he looked better, it was a little girl with two ponytails in her cute blond hair. 'Is she alone?' Then, a second later, the mother walked after her child: "Steffie, don't run. Stay with mommy."

The young woman took her little child on her arm. She became a little bit tired. She looks that way too. When she saw a strong man, with lots of muscles, walking her way, she became a little scared. 'Who is this man?' Now, there is a confused look on her face. The wrinkles on her forehead betray her age a little bit. She thought she might stay in the barn for a few weeks until she sorted things out. That is what a lovely old lady told her six weeks ago.

Martin promised himself not to fall in love again. After his terrible relationship for the last four years of his life, he became an introvert. He always seemed a decent nice man, always in to have small talk with his neighbours, friends, siblings and his parents. oner year before his father died, he ended his long-term relationship.

Stella Bird had a terrible year behind her, and she want to move on as soon as possible. This is something she wants to erase from her memories. When she thought about it again, she shivers heavily. Her little child looked into her brown eyes and smiled. That warms her heart. Her child's look also hurts a lot. It reminds her of that only event in her life she never wants to look back at. As soon as he stands there, his heart beats faster. In fact, her heart skipped a beat.

Martin stands across her, looking into her eyes, barely able to say something. The beauty of her brown sparkle eyes. He sees that she had been through lots of things, but yet, he felt that she is a strong woman that needs some company and people to talk to she can trust.

"What are you doing here, young lady?"

"Why do you care?"

"Well, this is my barn."

"Yeah sure. You're just trying to get me away. As all man do."

"Based on what do you say that?"

Martin sighed deeply: 'This woman is tough. More than I thought. How can I convince her talking to me properly?' This woman has really bad trust issues. What happened was that she became this way. He feels that she could love again, but he needs to get her trust. He walked a step forward while she bounced back. That didn't work out properly.

When Stella looked to her child, and back to him, she also knew she doesn't need to be that stubborn. She would do anything to protect her child. the only thing she needs to do is to find a job, and a proper house to stay in. It is a matter of time when that happens. She only has no money to pay for a babysitter she is fond of. Stella has strict rules for her baby, and when someone is not keeping up the rules, she fires them.

"OK, sit down for a moment."

"Why should I sit down? So you can kiss me?"

"Why should I?"

"Isn't that the way man get their victims into their beds?"

"Not me."

"I don't believe you."

She didn't want to sit down for a moment, she wants to play with her baby, looking for a job and give her child the best future she could offer. After these events, Stella told herself not to fall in love again, and protect her little child. At one point she got a lump in her throat from this man. Her heart began to flutter up and down. His well-muscled torso—as far as she could see it beneath his transparent white shirt—made her very restless inside. What makes him make her heartbeat so fast?

From up and down, Stella scanned him. Looking at her little child, she nodded to him decorations and sat down. She gently placed her toddler in the crib so she could take a nap before heading to that lovely lady, who invited her for dinner.

Both walked into the barn. When Martin looked around, he saw all the decoration she made. This turned into something amazing. It could be a real home. He never thought of this before. There were still horses in this barn three months ago. He still needs to get used to the idea that these precious animals are gone forever. He loved them a lot.

"You have made the barn beautiful."

"Thanks." She said with a monotone voice. "I have to make something out of my mass."

"What do you mean?"

"Let say that I have a tough period."

"I'm sorry."

"Don't pretend you mean it."

He didn't understand why she always had to say these kinds of things. It hurts. He is not like that. If he wants to, and only if - he doesn't want a relationship, he wants a genuine relationship, based on love for each other and trust. Still, she intrigues him with her stubbornness, which he loves about this woman. Standing for her values and norms. Suddenly, his phone rings. The display says: mom.

"You may take it, mom's are always important," she said with a sarcastic voice.

Martin looked to Stella and to her child: 'Yes, indeed they are.' With a smile, he picked up his phone. He always put his phone on speaker. Also this time. Stella heard his conversation with his mother. It was a little bit like a fight. From the corner of her eyes, she looked at him. She felt a little bit sorry for him. At the same time, it is not her business. Right?

"I think I should go. Dinner is ready."

Slowly, he walked out of the barn. Looking back one more time, he feels his heart beating too fast. Faster than he actually would love to beat his heart. Also, he feels a knife pointing at his heart. Someone wanting to go inside his wall, getting to know him better. He never lets that happen again!

Stella, on the other hand, didn't look back. She put on a nice dress, dressed the little girl, and they walked to the main house. That lovely lady - an older woman, still having a little bit red with an orange glow over it - invited her and her little girl for dinner that night. For the first time, she goes out for a while.

When Stella knocked on the door, she didn't expect the same man to open the door that she met earlier that day. Both - in a choir - they said: "You!" Martin almost wants to close the door, when his mother - the lovely lady - told her to come in.

As soon as Stella wanted to step in the house, the barn owl flew around her, and landed on her shoulder: "Hey you, again. You always come to me. What do you want?"

Martin looked to her, being so calm around these brown spotted animals: "Those animals are very dangerous."

"They love in your barn, otherwise", she replied fiercely. He didn't say anything. Laura, her long red hair hanging onto her shoulders, invited them to go inside.
