Let's move on to **Chapter 3** of *Whispers of Light* — a more intense exploration of the magic, the darkness, and the bond that transcends it all.
Chapter 3: The Abyss Between Worlds
Time doesn't pass in the Abyss. It churns like ink in water—thick, boundless, and silent.
I drifted there, unsupported, unfollowed, fraying.
This was not only a site of forgetting—it was where lost hopes were devoured, where broken promises murmured among themselves like phantasms. Shattered swords, torn banners, undelivered letters littered the ground around me. I was surrounded by tales that never got a chance to conclude.
And yet. I survived.
Occasionally, a flash of golden light would flicker across my pages Elian's remembrance of me, cutting through the veil. I held onto those flashes. They weren't hope they were fuel . Every one rewove a strand in my backbone, restored a line of ink, made me that little bit more complete.
And then something shifted.
A girl an older than Elian, but still young—one fell into the Abyss.
Her name was Aira.
She was not destined to be here. Her world above rejected her. They told her that her heart was not hard enough for the war, not cruel enough for the throne that she was born to claim. They offered her chains where there should have been option.
But others saw only weakness, I saw light.
She discovered me buried in a heap of shattered masks and shattered mirrors. She touched my cover—and I woke up.
Aira was not a spellcaster such as Elian. She was another thing— a Binder. A soul with the ability to bind fractured magic to fractured humans. She did not need to yell spells—she just needed to sense them. When she cracked me open, the spells rallied like birds homing to nest.
She read aloud:
- From silent tomb and shattered gate.
- Let hope arise, defy its fate.
- For bonds once made, though stretched by pain.
- Shall draw the stars to Earth again.
And the Abyss shook.
Through Aira, I started glowing once more warm light throbbing between every word. But the Abyss did not wish to release us. The Hollow had felt the stirring, and the shadows closed in around us, hissing, whispering, tempting.
- "You cannot save them."
- "You were never enough."
- "Your magic belongs to me."
Aira did not heed.
She cast her own spell—one forged in sorrow, courage, and burning love:
- "You do not own my light."
And with that, the spell burst into flame.
A portal groaned open above us, gold pouring down into the infinite darkness. Aira swept me up, heart calm. We ascended—through fire and tempest, through fear and remembrance—until we re-emerged into the world of blue and stars.
We fell into a sea of silvergrass in the light of a crescent moon.
And standing there, standing taller now, eyes wide with tears and amazement. was Elian.
Chapter 4: The Lightbound Pact
When Elian and Aira met each other's gaze under that moon of silvergrass, I shuddered with a tremor running through my pages.
He had transformed—no longer the weak boy who clasped me with shaking hands. The years apart had etched strength into his body, fire into his voice. But the glimmer in his heart—that same unbreakable goodness—remained intact.
Aira edged forward hesitantly, not knowing if this boy from my own past would take kindly to a stranger who now bore the book he once referred to as his own.
But Elian just smiled. "You found her," he said, voice low and calm. "You brought her back to me."
And then—he bowed.
Not because he was duty-bound, but because he felt deep respect. Two hearts, once strangers, now bound together by me—a book of magic, yes, but more than that. a living bond of light and story.
That evening, sitting around a small fire, we made the promise that would alter the destiny of the realms:
- We are the Lightbound.
- We do not rule. We protect.
- We do not destroy darkness—we bring light into it.
- Through love, courage, and truth, we carry magic not to control—but to heal."
I inscribed that promise onto my last blank page. And as I did, something ancient awakened in the skies.
Stars began to fall.
But they were not falling in chaos—they were gathering.
Everywhere on the planet, my spells—concealed in caves, trapped in libraries, sealed behind forgotten waterfalls—started to stir. Pages began to radiate. Doors creaked open. Other magical books stirred from their sleep. We had been waiting. for them.
The Hollow sensed it too.
His rage tore apart the night. Storms burst forth where his darkness moved. Temples came crashing down. Fear crept back into the hearts of men. He started to spread a curse—one that would turn delight into illusion and warp love into obsession. He named it *The Veil*.
Aira, Elian, and I didn't have much time.
We ventured across the continents—into cities in flames, doomed forests, and lands without dreams. Wherever we went, we left not only mended wounds—but embers. *Other Lightbound.* Individuals who had lost hope—now chanting spells off my pages, spreading light through laughter, rebuilding what hate had destroyed.
The Hollow, though, was planning his last weapon.
No monster. No tempest.
A Book—a dark mirror of myself. Its name was The Mourning Tome , and unlike me, it thrived on fear. Its pages held the most powerful curse: Unlove. A spell to erase connection itself. To make people forget they were ever loved.
And worse. it was written by someone who once held me.
