"There weren't always dragons in the Valley...In fact, this Valley was once a lost and forgotten place. Ravaged by days and left for dead by the earth. The Valley of Ten Sun's had not known lifeforms for an offensive amount of centuries. A "Valley" is actually a kind word for what this place used to be. Stoic land and motionless air, plagued by silence for so long. And then one day, one singular and extraordinary day, a star from the night sky fell to earth and shattered into ten pieces. The pieces of the star ricocheted outwards across the Valley and bore ten globes of blinding light where each piece fell. Each sphere containing the vibrating hearts of ten dragon's that would soon be born. Some believe the dragon's materialized out of sun rays while others think they flew up to our surface from the bowels of the earth. Despite what you may believe about the beginning of their existence, they are here. They live. Now there are dragons in the Valley. The Valley of Ten Su-" CUT!!!!!!!

The house lights of The Prism Theatre came on to reveal a tired crew and an onyx rotunda with a half built set. It looked like the lovechild of A Midsummer Night's Dream and Avatar.

"Cut cut cut...we're gonna have to workshop this again D." Leoni yelled.

D, "What was the problem with that?!"

Leoni, "It's just not feeling like you are believing what you are saying. Like you don't believe that these dragon's are real. That the star didn't fall to earth on that fateful day. You have to believe that they occupy this Valley. That they appeared out of the pieces of this star."

The latest play from acclaimed writer Javier Velasquez had been in pre production for months. There is a lot riding on this play considering it is his first in 6 years. Javier can be known to be a bit temperamental about his work. He describes his latest brainchild...and I quote a"dark pseudo Spanish new-wave inspired cerebral fantasy with a twist of Kubrick science fiction and a dash Frank Oz whimsy." Early reviews have been mixed.

D,"Are you fucking kidding me?!"

Leoni, "Look, Lo-Fi Fairytale is a pretty out there play, I get it. But if we are going to have rehearsals done by the 27th then we need to get this blocking situated and that includes your performance. You need to make these dragon's hot! And I am not hot yet."

D, "Well what do you expect from me with writing like this... I mean dragon's from pieces of a fallen star? Get real!"

Leoni, "Hey, don't talk about the writing. The writing is solid...he is a visionary. Visionaries are hardly ever appreciated in their lifetimes."

The director, Leoni Meadows, is an avid fan of Mr. Velasquez's work, ever since his debut "The Witch's Foot". They fought really hard to be the one to direct his latest play. They also kind of know him a bit...they met once at a party in St. Lucia.

D,"Visionary...Ha! Visionary my ass. Harmony Korine...now that's a visionary!"

Silence fell between them both.

Leoni,"Let's just take a break D. Get something cool to drink, take fifteen."

Dion Lakewood was a really good and well known actor. Only had done a couple plays before but is very committed to the roles they choose. Dion did initially want to back out of the play because they were going to shoot a movie in Bali. That production got shut down due to an outbreak, so Dion came back to do the play a bit disappointed, wanting the work however. Something tells us they are still a bit bitter about the matter.

Leoni breathes and whispers..."Just breathe, it will all be okay. You are bringing the work of a talented person you admire to life. You fought for this job...you wanted this job. Why did I want this job again?"

Just then a PA approaches Leoni with a fake Nirvana T-shirt and a crumpled face.

Leoni, "Yesssss?"

PA, "I am sorry to bother you now but the painters need to know what color you want the Wilder Nymphs...Chartreuse Acid or 3rd Degree Burn."

Leoni, "Neither, they are supposed to be painted Heaven's Cloud with an Arctic Pina Colada border!"

PA, "I see...I will be back."

Leoni, "Hey kid...what is your name?"

PA, "I'm Ari."

Leoni, "Ari...Out of curiosity, what is your favorite Nirvana song?"

PA, "Mmmmmm, Jane's Addiction!" (smiles and walks away)

Leoni, "Jesus f-in christ."

So far, the production has had some hiccups. But Leoni remains determined and optimistic that they will be able to pull off this production and make Javier Velasquez proud. If all goes well with this play, Javier would consider writing a sequel. Dion returns...looking ever so slightly less egregious.

Leoni, "Feeling better?"

D, "Yeah, a little. Should we take it from the same place again?"

Leoni, "Depends are you going to make me feel these dragon's from the back row?"

D, "I am going to make you choke on these dragons!"

Leoni, "Unnecessary...but I will take it."

Dion took their place amongst the set and the house lights went back down. The blocking crew sat down and Leoni along with the script went back to the same seat they were in before.

Leoni, "When you get to the part of the singular and extraordinary day on the sixth line, drag that sentence out just a little bit more and hold a slight pause after....aaaaaaand"

Dion took a deep breath and gazed out into the theatre.

"ACTION!"

"There weren't always dragon's in the Valley..."
