Ted Lasso remains the focal point.

The season—and potentially series—finale of Ted Lasso initially seemed poised to take a surprising turn by suggesting a romantic pairing between Ted and Rebecca. However, the show cleverly subverts expectations and instead delivers a highly emotional episode titled "So Long, Farewell." As the Greyhounds prepare for a crucial match against Rupert's West Ham, which could secure them the Premier League title, they also grapple with bidding farewell to Ted, who is set to return to the United States. While Beard's departure is also hinted at, Ted remains the focal point.

Rebecca finds it difficult to discuss Ted's impending departure, leaving her contemplating her own future. Without Ted, she questions her desire to remain in the picture. Throughout the episode, she leans toward leaving, but in a poignant moment, she seeks Ted out in the stadium, reminiscent of the opening credits, and they have a quiet conversation. Rebecca candidly tells Ted, "If you go, I go," and implores him to stay. Although she ends the discussion on a positive note, envisioning a carefree life of travel and enjoyment, it's clear that her fate will be different.

The episode features several significant one-on-one interactions. Nate, now fully back on the team, offers Ted an apology, to which Ted humbly responds that it was unnecessary. Later, Beard also apologizes, knowing that his love for Jane prevents him from joining Ted in the States. However, it's the one-sided exchange where Ted leaves a note criticizing Trent's manuscript titled "The Lasso Way" that encapsulates the essence of the show: "It's not about me. It never was."

While other characters have their notable subplots, the focus is primarily on the Roy/Keeley/Jamie dynamic. After spending considerable time on Roy and Jamie's evolving friendship and personal growth, the show rushes them into a predictable love triangle confrontation. However, the confrontation is cut short when Keeley is offended by being given the privilege of choosing between them. Although this reaction is fitting for Keeley, it portrays Roy and Jamie in a less favorable light than they have been portrayed throughout the season.

To his credit, Roy acknowledges this and seeks the guidance of the Diamond Dogs. In a culmination of the show's emphasis on men expressing their feelings and striving for personal growth, Roy decides to join them. It serves as a defining moment for a series that values self-improvement and acknowledges that perfection is uninteresting in people.

With these storylines resolved, the stage is set for the highly dramatic match. The team enters the field with tears in their eyes, fueled by Beard's reflective video. They struggle initially but find inspiration in Ted's halftime locker room speech. Although the inclusion of another halftime moment initially feels obligatory, the reassembled "BELIEVE" sign provides a fitting conclusion. Grand gestures have been a recurring theme for the Greyhounds, and this one requires less coordination than their rendition of "So Long, Farewell" during their final practice.

Thanks to Jamie and the collective effort of the team, they achieve a miraculous victory, marred by off-the-field drama. Rupert, already humiliated by the scandalous revelation of his inappropriate relationship, becomes increasingly agitated. In a fit of rage, he enters the field and orders his coach to remove Jamie. When his demands are refused, he shoves the coach before leaving the pitch, ridiculed by the crowd as a "wanker." Rupert, the only true Ted Lasso villain, meets a fitting fate.

As the episode concludes, everyone finds their own resolution. Ted returns home, finding peace in his decision. Beard remains with Jane and the team. Rebecca
