Short Story
The Ghost in the Mirror
In the quaint town of Eldermoor, nestled between rolling hills and ancient woods, stood a dilapidated mansion known as Holloway House. It had a reputation for being haunted, with tales of ghostly apparitions and eerie sounds that echoed through its empty halls. For generations, the townsfolk whispered about the spirits that roamed its rooms, cautioning children to stay away.

Lost In My Library
Introduction I don't think I have ever used one of Vocal's prompts from their resources. I know I use their challenges as prompts but that is different. They have lots of jumping-off points for poetry, stories and articles and if you are stuck then they really are worthwhile to look into, although I know Creators who find things like that too much trouble.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: This story was originally posted here on Vocal in 2021 as an entry for the Little Black Book Challenge. I edited it a bit and decided to re-post it under the Fiction Community, that did not exist at the time I wrote it. Please enjoy!

Sand
The boy labours in the sand. The waves tickle closer, the sun drops lower in the sky, and still he keeps digging. Papa, speaking softly, rests a hand on his shoulder. Gestures up the beach to where Mama is packing up their things. Scowling, the boy shrugs him away. Papa frowns, too, his voice hardening. The boy digs.

The Night Before
Outside in the courtyard, a Santa hat sits crooked on the top of a tall saguaro and sparkling fairy lights hang down from its outstretched arms. A couple of units down, Christmas music drifts out into the chill of this December twilight. Silent night. All is calm. All is bright.
