Short Story
The Midnight Visitor
The Clock struck midnight in the small town of Ashford, and the usually quiet streets were shrouded in an eerie fog. Detective Sarah Lawson sat in her dimly lit office, sifting through a mountain of paperwork. She was the best detective in town, known for solving the most complex cases, but the latest string of disappearances had left her baffled. Three people had vanished without a trace in the past month, and the only clue was a cryptic note left behind at each scene: "When the clock strikes twelve, the game begins."

**Title: The Midnight Adventure: A Chilling Discussion Among Friends**
**Title: The Midnight Adventure: A Chilling Discussion Among Friends** The clock struck midnight, and the air inside the small cabin seemed to grow colder. Four friends—Sam, Aria, Leo, and Mia—gathered around the crackling fireplace, its orange glow casting eerie shadows on the walls. The night outside was silent, save for the occasional hoot of an owl or the rustling of leaves in the wind. They were far from civilization, surrounded by dense woods and darkness that stretched for miles. It was the perfect setting for what they had planned: a discussion of the scariest horror stories they knew.

The Sound of Silence
Maya sat on the edge of her bed, the late afternoon light casting long shadows across the room. In her hands, she held a photograph, its edges worn from the countless times she had traced them, as if trying to capture the feelings from that moment. The image was one of joy—Daniel’s arm draped over her shoulders, his face close to hers, both of them beaming. It was taken on their first trip together, a time when everything seemed perfect, when love was a warm blanket that shielded them from the world’s harsh realities.

You left
You left me. Lonely. Scared. A child who is only safe holding your hand and you let her go in the deep night, get lost in fear. I see our memories every time I close my eyes as if I’m walking bare feet on sharp glass. I still see your face in my selfies, holding my shoulders, your smile lightening the picture. The night that I now am forced to endure alone is sad, scary, foreign to me, different from the night I am used to. The night we walked hand in hand. The night we shared ice cream cones. The night filled with laughter echoing through the heavy trees. Now the trees are bare and the stars don’t shine. The moon is naked, unable to keep me safe. The person who was used to cry in your arms about the harsh nights is now crying in the arms of the moon about your absence.

**The Trial of the Heart**
Emma jolted awake, dazed and squinting in the intense light overhead. She was sitting in a wooden chair in the middle of a big, darkly lighted courtroom instead of in her bed. Tension was in the air, and she could feel all the eyes staring at her.
