Short Story
Your Best Friend
“I love you,” Sayaka told Melanie one day after school, and meant it. The rain around them pounded against the concrete with powerful splatters, the sounds of the storm whipping in their ears. Melanie’s umbrella, clenched in both of Sayaka’s hands, careened dangerously to the left from the wind.

Here, Never There. Content Warning.
I heard my heartbeat before I felt it. I woke up in a void. Then, blinding light from nowhere. I was standing on the bridge where the accident happened. I sat on the edge of the bridge knowing that I should be dead but, I wasn’t. Knowing that my body is buried but I was here. Fully awake, alert. Right before the fatal collision, I thought about the girls. Hoping they would get out of this unscathed, at the most injured but not dead. My thoughts were interrupted. Good Riddance, he said it clearly and with resolve. I didn’t wait to see if the girls ever came back. Death seemed a better fate than what I was given. I spent days wandering around trying to figure things out. I concluded that I was invisible. Telekinesis and Telepathy came soon after. They gave balance to my invisibility which almost didn’t seem fair. I spent most of my waking life trying to hide. I became someone who most people didn’t notice unless they had to. And the day I was finally noticed was the day I died. Then fate granted me with superpowers that made it easy for me to avenge my death. But going back to the place where it happened would get me noticed. And I already know how that story ended.

The Willing. Honorable Mention in Craft Over Catharsis Challenge.
"Where's Schulz?" A student sitting ahead of me asks this question with real outrage. We have all been waiting for about twenty minutes for the lecture to begin, and there is no sign of the professor, Dr. Schulz. The crowd is predictably thin, as has become customary for in person classes since the pandemic. A quick look around confirms that about half of the forty humans on the books are present. I'm Schulz's TA, so I keep track of the numbers. He's never interested.

Beautiful Stranger
People are always talking about how hard it is to find love. Especially online. Like, you always have to look out for creeps who just want nudes and fake profiles that try to scam vulnerable, lonely people out of their hard-earned cash. It's pretty scummy, and I'm honestly not sure which is worse. Even with the legit matches you get, it's almost impossible to find someone you really click with. After all that hard work digging through the muck and mire, once in a while you think you've struck gold. That is, until you actually meet them in person. And find out the hard way that the 6'4" twenty-something sensitive jock/poet you matched with is actually an overweight, balding, part-time pizza delivery boy in his late thirties, who hasn't showered since junior high.

Escape from the Deserted Highway
The sun beat down mercilessly on the cracked and weathered asphalt of the deserted highway. Not a single car or truck passed by as Sarah trudged along the shoulder, her feet burning with each step. She had been walking for hours, the vast expanse of empty road stretching out before her with no sign of life.

Can't Beat the House
Lucía liked the Marcel-Wilsons. They treated her like family. Mostly. Lily and Max were good kids. The children had an enormous playroom with all manner of toys and games. The coolest thing, in her opinion was the House. She couldn't understand why the kids didn't play with it more.
